Hugely helpful

I'm arriving in Phuket on Fri 4th and am gonna spend 4 days looking for a pad for 3-6 months

Arriving with my translator/temporary "girlfriend" to help with dealing with non farang landlords...... then shipping her back to Soi Cowboy

Some questions.............

Any rooms in a baller poker house going ?

If not ....is four days enough to find a pad ?

Should I buy my monitor in Panthip or can I get similar prices in Phuket city ?

But most importantly.....How the f**K am I ever going to leave this country ?

Burasari Hotel

Where in Phuket do you want to live?

So far I vely much like Rawai (followed by Kata)

Not a fan of Patong. If its this busy now I'll hate it by Nov

Heading to Kamla & Surin today

What is da budget?

$800 inc water & lecky (maybe more if it's really nice)

Not entirely sure this is the island for me tho.....Not sure why but the disproportionate number of Starbucks & McDonalds in Patong is upsetting me (and I'm not really a bleeding heart liberal anti globalisation type)

Maybe the constant rain is warping my view. Dunno.

People as ever are lovely.

Chicks don't appear to be so hot either.

True True. Such wisdom on these forums.

But where else will I find Gay go-go bars ?

I thought the Issan girls' two step thing was quite minimalist until I saw these boys' moves. Had me in stitches.

Katoeys not up to much either.

(I don't actually frequent gay haunts.....I just had to expand my cultural horizons)

I have seen a 30" Dell in Panthip couple of months ago. It was in a shop on 2nd floor and on the right hand side (when going up the escalator). He wanted about 50k baht for it. It looked to have gathered a bit of dust and maybe he sold it and didnt get another one...
Ask around in shops that focus on monitors and I am sure they can order one for you.

Big thumbs up to the new-and-improved Boss after-hours club. I hear they are open until 10am as well. Last night went there after Spicey and was blown away by the renovations. Doesn't appear to be all hookers either which is my main complaint with Spicey. They have a real nice lit up dance floor, huge club etc, very nice. Reminds me of a less classy version of Santika.

Maybe this is old news but it was my first time seeing the new club. It used to be a small, tables only, dirty, 98% whore after-hours club.

I have a few questions about internet in Phuket:

1) How relaible and fast is the best internet? When it rains and when it is not.
2) What company offer this package?
3) Is it still difficult to get phone lines installed? Last time I lived there I had to buy another persons phone number.
4) Is the internet better in certain areas than others?
5) Is there any cheap hotel with good wifi where I could stay while I am looking for a house?

Hope you guys can help me!

Thanks!

1) I hardly ever get disconnect with my TT&T 2mbit premier adsl. some people say the internet goes down when it rains but i have more trouble with electricity than internet. though UPS takes care of that. never lost a pot because internet died

2) My main internet is TT&T premier package and 2/1Mbit. I can download 320kb/s though so i think they have upgraded this to 3mbit. I am paying the 2mbit price though (1090baht/month).

I have CDMA aircard as back-up. it is reliable enough to have as main internet too. there's a cat telecom office in 2nd floor in central to get cdma.

3) in rawai where i live i had to wait like 7 weeks before i got my own telephone number&adsl. my landlord bought the number for me in this case too. i am not sure which other areas have this problem.

4) some areas are not covered with TT&T but only TOT which I have heard (mainly from newteabag) is much worse than tt&t. so i guess if you can't have tt&t in your house it might be worse area

5) dunno. CDMA works everywhere in thailand except bangkok so get that as back-up internet (and main internet when you are travelling etc). it is pretty expensive to buy (5-10k as new) and monthly cost is 850 baht. but if you need to have a connection ready 24/7 i guess extra 30 bucks a month is worth it

Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate it.

One more question if you please?

As matter of a fact I have never used CDMA, did not even know about it. Could you please tell me how reliable that connection is and if it is a prepaid opton for it. Or do I have to get me a thai person to sign for it?

It is still not possible for falangs to sign for phone lines and it-contracts in Phuket, right?

Some people say cdma disconnects sometimes if you download stuff with it. I've used it 10-15 times to grind and never had any problems. used it in chiang mai too with no problems. haven't used it to download anything though.

i've got a cdma in my name. just bought one(another one for a friend) today and signed the papers myself. no thais needed for this. it's not like you are buying land or anything

i dunno if you can prepay it. you have to buy the card first though. after that you get a bill in your mail monthly which you can pay at their office, any seven or million other places

1) can't help with that

2) with CDMA i think it depends how close you are to one of their towers and what is on the way. I am about 1.2km from the tower and there are no big structures or anything on the way so i guess that might be one of the reasons it is reliable at my place. Still I haven't heard anyone saying the cdma sucks ass or anything.
