Renting from Farangs is rare because Farangs can really only own condos - but the few around who do rent out their condos don't charge any more than Thais do, and they are a lot easier to deal with than Thais.

I actually now want to do a social experiment where I go to random people and offer 100 baht now OR like 2,000 baht next week. If I made the offer to a hundred people, I think less than 10% would take 2k, even if they had reason to believe I'll still be around in a week.

Pretty sure we aren't talking about the same one then as the Waterfront Diamond I looked at was pretty new, maybe 2 years old and neither bad looking.

Sansiri is probably as upscale as it gets for thai developments. If I was thai I'd snap buy a condo from them as the installment rates are a lot better than renting.

they are expensive, the same condos are advertised on different sites with different pricing(probably due to their commission and when it was uploaded) and CBRE always had the higher price; i remember one on athenee residences a while back.

Hey guys I have read most of this thread but I'm trying to figure out some info that maybe u can help with.

I am looking to travel to BKK for 1 month leaving Australia on the 29th August. I have never been before and my only experience traveling in Asia has been to Shanghai last year so Im pretty inexperienced.

Should I look to book my room before I leave so I got somewhere to go once I land or just wait till I get there and find some place suitable?

If I'm staying for a month can I find a ok place for $50 a night or should I budget up to $100 for something better?

My gf of 3 years is filipino and it has been a big effort to get 'permission' to go to Bangkok by myself as she has some idea of what I probally be getting up to, I have read numerous times that bringing a gf there is a bad idea so I have been trying to avoid that at all costs.

Is it worth bringing my laptop with me, I dont really intend on playing poker much while I'm there and thinking it might be a hassle if something happens to it, gets lost etc?

Is there anyone, maybe an australian who lives there that I could add on msn or yahoo to have a chat about a couple of other smaller questions that I have?

Thanks!

you should probably book a hotel for a few nights then look for an apartment for a month. for 50/night you can stay at the convento on convent road which i liked a lot. a lot of people stay at the grand president, they do monthly rates too.

i wouldnt worry about your laptop if i were you.

I put that link because it gives a good idea of the good buildings on sukhumvit. They just put an estimate on the price ranges without specifying any exact price ...

When I went to visit condo with their agents it was like, that owner ask 90 000, im sure he can go down to 80 000 bla bla bla.

On top of that they manage some of the nicest buildings so they are well connected. For the price that i could get when i visited with them it was the same as other agencies, mostly depends on the owner of the particular unit.

Thats a good website to look for place directly but the owner too, but some of those buildings arent finished yet, so only have units for sale.

Yea i just stumbled upon that website, and the prices are way better, but it just seems a little bit off. for some of the rooms it feels like you are renting from the tenant who actually lives in the room and may be on holiday, and not the landlord. at least that what it looked like on some listings, letting google translate the website into English. like some would say one price per month, but then if u click the web link to the condos official website, it would list the same rooms at a higher price. the areas near Ari look nice and are a bit cheaper than sukumvit however

So i read about this new "fee" in Thailand that would have gone through a few months ago.If you withdraw money from an ATM it costs $15 or so unless you got a card for The bank of Thailand, Laos bank, Vietnam Bank and some other countries next to Thailand. Does anyone know anything more about it?

I see, I might sound cheap now, but I'm going to backpack there for a couple of months so every saved penny is good. Withdrawing like 2000bht every couple of days will add up to a significant sum in the end and withdrawing more than that doesn't sound too safe to be honest. How do you do with money there or how would you do if you were in my situation?
Perhaps just use my Mastercard to pay with at most places that accept credit cards and then have like 2000bht for places that don't take cards?

I would open an account at the kasikorn bank(the green bank). the only things you need are passport and an address in thailand. just deposit a big chunk there once and then withdraw money whenever you need it. the smallest you can withdraw is 100 baht. ATM's are everywhere

has anyone's 12 talk spazzed out bad before? i keep receiving message after message from them the past 2 days. when i reload credits, it pretty much nukes it back to 0. i have an iphone that was unlocked at mbk, i accidently updated, and then i unlocked again myself, and i heard they sometimes put some kind of chip in it.

I am wondering how cheaply I can stay on Phi Phi and Puket.

I just want a cheap place with no ac or anything.

Hoping to go for less than $20 a night, is that possible?
