If Chiang Mai isn't your thing, give some of the smaller cities even further up north a try. I know plenty of people who have fled CM disappointed after the first week, only to fall in love with Chiang Rai or Mae Hong Song. IME people have much better attitudes overall compared to the tourist island folk.

no kidding. 100k baht/mo is ridiculously cheap.

love how it says 'for use as a resort or demanding family' and 'living room/reception area'

Direction from immigration... exit out turning right, turn right again on the main street, pass the school and the first operationing traffic light, turn right at the next light (this one just blinks red all the time), turn left into the entrance to the Transportation Office. It's basically located two roads west of immigration. There are two building, you want the building on the right, the building on the left is for green books, registration, tax, etc.

You need:

- Passport: copies can be done there they will know which pages (info page, stamp, visa, departure form) you need twice the copies if you want motorbike and car, sign all copies

-Medical Certificate: price ranges from 50 to 100 baht per certificate, can be obtain at all hospitals and some clinics, you need two if you want motorbike and car

-Home/International driver's license: this is optional but exempts you from the tests, i had both car and bike licenses so I didn't take and exam or driving test

-Letter of Residence: obtained at immigration for 100 baht, possibly free if you come with thai gf, need to show rent contract

-Money: for the motorbike test if you don't bring one with you ,you can rent a 20 year old dream bike for 20 baht. The license itself costs ~100 baht. the going bribe rate is around 6,000 baht if you want to expedite the process and not take any tests

There are some vision and reaction tests that everyone takes. Show up before the doors open at 8:30am. Some room have no A/C prepare so prepare to get sweaty. Given that it's a government building it's suggested you wear pants and a clean shirt.

every house in thailand probably has geckos, ants and some can have cockroaches or spiders.

or a snake like in our last house when we went to see it the first time. took it anyways for 6 months.

only saw a scorpion once on the way to that same house. some random thai woman came out and put a tip of a knife on it while we passed and then kicked it back in to the jungle

fun times

the ssnl got a house with ~same idea with only 4-5 ppl. i only have some 2nd/3rd hand info + what they wrote in the threads. lets just say there were some problems you might not know that can happen if you havent been here yet.

anyways gl with the plan
I also heard some of "some problems" at the ssnl house in Phuket... even our 4 bedroom house in BKK can get a little out of control. PM me if you have any questions or want advice on managing a 2p2 house in Thailand.

I've officially changed the name of ours from Baan Itipat Crew (what it do) to Baan Itipat Zoo (what it dont do)

are these problems secret?

i mean it's obv sorta risky living with some super random people who you just so happen to have a minor connection with through online poker. no doubt it can end up great as many of you seem to be good friends, but i definitely think living alone is the way to go.

I just made a post in the Thailand Chatter thread about this same topic but I think this might be the better place.

Mods feel free to keep or delete whichever post.

I just wanted to share a short film that I created on a recent trip to Thailand to other future travelers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Us-sLMAhNg

It will hopefully help show what all the hype is about.

i suggest shorts and tshirt way to hot for pants.

oh and the tests are very easy, though i actually failed the driving test the first time because i got the wrong instructions on one part.
for motorbike its just driving thourgh the obstacle course takes 1min. everyone drove together no one failed, cant say the same about the car test, were like 20% of the people knocked over the markers parking, as you drive around you drive past the instructor, one guy drove up next to her without seatbelt on, insta fail.

i did car and motorbike on the same day, and theory test twice, but it was the same test lol? so back to back same test, 30 questions and very basic stuff, hardest part is understanding the questions/pictures.

If you fail the written test, you get an extra class where they go through every question one by one and give you the correct answer. Armed with this knowledge, they send you off to do the same test again.

I haven't heard what happens if you fail it twice.

Beautiful. But I'm amazed at how (and why!) you turned a city like Bangkok into a cold, grey, sad, lonely place.

Beautiful movie, loved it. One little thing only, I wish it'd have been a little more about thai people and a little less about buildings and traffic.
