South-East asia is anything but "liberal". What liberal lifestyle exists is only because of the incompetence and/or corruption of police. Asia is far more conservative than the west.

Have you never seen any of the umpteen movies about westerners being imprisoned for drugs in Asia?

Try "Return To Paradise" ,"Brokedown Palace", "Bangkok Hilton" etc etc etc.

I should have been more specific. I wouldn't bother with malaria or typhoid unless you want to be extra cautious (which I suppose isn't bad). Definitely hep shots, but I thought those were standard for everyone in the western world anyway? I know I got mine ages ago before ever coming to asia.

where is the best internet on/near the beach? perfect,highspeed,bombass internet?

TT&T has good adsl in phuket

in karon our electricity was out atleast once a month for several hours during daytime

only had that happen once in rawai in the last 5 months

as for nightlife in Kata, it has the Night bazaar and a ton of beer bars, but if you want discos you'll need to go to Patong, Rawai, or Phuket Town.

Speaking of internet has anyone tried using their mobile phone to connect it to their laptop. How is dtac/ais using their edge/gprs service? Ever since my e51 got stolen I've been using a nokia 3110 classic. I was hoping to use this while traveling out of bangkok in a few weeks so I don't need to worry about hotel internet. Is it possible to at least play 1 table like this? Has anyone tried this before?

I have tried it. It is possible to play 1 table like that, yes.

However I found that I would disconnect every 5-10 minutes on average. I don't know whether it was the phone, where I was, or something else, but it's definitely not a good plan for pokering.

is anyone here renting/lenting apartment in Kata with kitchen for under 15-20k baht, I have been looking for many hours on a motorbike but i gave up.. Any tip would be greatly appreciated.

no that is how it has been for the past couple of months

we are heading to a season where the rain can be more constant and it will be more cloudy

next good weather season starts around mid november

iirc chicago is in illinois and there should be same kind of weather as in my home city in finland and if that is the case then it is 100% that it is much better weather in thailand for you 24/7
