Only the newest hotels sometimes don't have ants at all, even when I forget an empty thing of yoghurt on the nightstand (foolproof test imo). I don't know if they have ways to combat them or the ants just haven't had time to infiltrate yet - probably the latter.

Citadines on Sukhumvit Soi 11 is nice, a studio apartment but internet is only on wired connection unless you pay extra.

Should be able to get for ~30k baht for the month. Daily rate was 1,650bht when i stopped there.

Grand President on the same street is another option.

What do you mean by this? ADSL cable is way better than wifi. What's the option you have to pay extra for?

I was checking out a place that seems pretty nice for 19k THB/mo, has a fitness center, a pool, the rooms are really big a nice, but the internet is a 4mb wireless connection that deals with a proxy. IS that going to be able to support grinding? This is obviously a necessity.
This is ridiculously hard finding a decent place with internet.

Depends on who your provider is. Just make sure your not with TOT. If u really do need wireless just buy a wireless router.

So as of today I'm still in Vegas, but I just booked my flight to BKK from july 8th to aug 13th (<1k$roundtrip balaaa).

I've seen some people post in ehre that they're looking for houses/roomates, and I'm definitely up if someone has an open room for a month. Otherwise, because i'm lazy like this, i plan on just showing up, finding a hotel to stay in for a couple of days, rent a place for a month, and try to meet up with some of you guys/travel about and see ****.

Any suggestions as to whether or not flying by the seat of my pants is the way to go? Or anyone up for renting me a room (just graduated college, looking to have a final blast before I start my job aug 18th )

Will probably shoot some of the guys in this thread some pms. just sounded like too fun a country to pass up.

How do you set up a "VPN to access Betfair"?

http://www.strongvpn.com/

I used this. It worked decently but it cuts out at times but I think all VPNs cut out at times. SOME people on this forum *cough danny* used that as an excuse to not play, so there's always that!

Hi, as i have mentioned i am considering coming to BBK at the start of July.
I have been browsing different appartments/hotels etc, but i dont really know which area of the city is best to be based at, looking for a nice(ish) area, nice bars, resturants, girls, other 2+2ers e.t.c?

Also i have noticed that they add on water and electric at about 7thb/unit electric, 18thb/unit water in serviced appartments. Does anyone know how much on average this may cost per month?

I recommend you staying on Sukhumvit road, which is mainly where most of us are staying

depends on how much you A/C you use, you'll average about 2000bht / month for a small one bed room place

Keechy, pretty much anywhere near the skytrain or MRT is going to be good. I'd make getting to a skytrain/MRT station in under 5 minutes my #1 priority. That said, I'd start out by taking a hotel on sukhumvit between soi 1 and soi 35 or so, then look further when you're here.

Electricity/water is going to depend on how big your apartment is. My bill gets to about 2k baht for a 38m2 studio, but I forget to turn off my A/C all the time and I always have it running when I'm home.

Edit: too late, heh. Well, at least you know it's true. :P

well I guess for me I'm a city person, always a lot of people around, a lot of options to go out eat, dance, drink and so on.. I don't mind the beach once a while, but staying there more then a few weeks got me a bit bored, I just like the busy city life I guess

and I would never even consider living in Pattaya.. god, that would be so sick lol

Pattaya shouldn't be discounted from the thread, it offers everything a 2+2er could want at way cheaper prices than Bangkok.

Pattaya has a bad reputation as a place purely for sex tourists, but to be honest, if someone wants a good, cheap, place to stay, near the beach, with reliable internet access then Pattaya is it.

Pattaya is much cheaper than Phuket or Bangkok and has much better internet + nightlife than Samui or KPG.

And there's no rule that says you have to stay right on Walking Street or Soi 6 in Pattaya. It's a big place and there are quieter, more family oriented areas there too.

Personally I stay in Samui because I've been coming here a long time and are friends with a lot of the expats that live here, but if I was going to move then I would certainly consider Pattaya.

I've been considering moving to Thailand for a while now.. I've got some questions I'd be happy someone knowledgeable can answer..

How easy is it to get hold of a little a scooter and do I need a license? I wana nip about on a little scooter when I live there..

I play basketball a few times a week, are there bball courts everywhere, or is bball not a big sport over there? I'd wana play ball every few days at local out door courts/sportshalls

I know we can get female company for hire at any time in Thailand, but I refuse to pay for that ****.. is it still possible to get normal women over there that are interested in more than the contents of your wallet? I mean, sure women like $$$, but I'd not like to lower myself to paying for a god given pursuit..

I'd like to live near a beach, are there enough beaches which have good internet access near by/wifi on the beach cafes on the see front?

I'd like to move in with other Poker Players/or move near already established poker players, where do you guys hang out?

I'm 22 and basically working to pay bills over here in the UK.. I've travelled a fair bit but never Thailand, would love to try living out there for a while

Thanks for the replies in advance

Peace

super easy to get a scooter

we had trouble finding courts in phuket, but i don't think theres any issue at all in bkk

women - obv its possible blah blah blah grey area etc etc

phuket is probably your best bet for the beach

everyone in phuket/bkk is reasonably close to each other, so chances are if you're not living with anyone you'll definitely be near them

enjoy

cheers for the responses..

some more questions.>

Can I still use SKYPE and SPOTIFY out there? I'm assuming I can just use VPN for spotify right?

Should I bring my existing desktop and laptop with me, or buy a new one out there?

Ever get cold out there, or am I dressing for the beach 365?

I'm accepting the fact that when (if) I eventually return to England, I will have a massive career gap on my CV.. so while I'm out there could I do something like TEFL or something similar at a fully accredited place?

If I have some more questions later I'll post but can't think of any more right now

Cheers dude

A couple quick question regarding visas:

As a person coming from the US, are you required to show a bank statement to get a travel visa?

Also, just so I'm perfectly clear about this, are travel visas obtainable from the airport upon arrival?

The guide at the top of the forum covers visa's pretty well. Some Countries require bank statements, most western ones don't though.
