ROOM FOR RENT IN APARTMENT IN SUKHUMVIT STARTING JUNE 13TH (23K BHT A MONTH)

pokerprochris and myself have just signed a 6 month lease on an apartment in Bangkok, Thailand. The apartment is a spacious 3 bedroom (250 sqm) on the 7th floor and seeing that there is only two of us, we are renting out the other bedroom to 2+2ers looking for a place to stay in Bangkok. It would be nice for the person to commit to at least 3 months at the apartment.

About the actual apartment. The apartment name is Empire Sawatdi and Chris has stayed here the last 6 months and really enjoyed the location. It is located near BTS Phrom Phong in a quiet area inside Sukhumvit Soi 31. The bedroom for up for rent is a large double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom/TV/working desk. The rest of the apartment consists of a living room with 42” LCD HDTV (basic cable), kitchen, maid quarters and 3 balconies.

Internet is a 1.5mbps connection which can be upgraded to 4mb but we haven’t found the need too since the connection has been fine the last 6 months. I play 1/2 full ring and Chris plays 2/4 full ring, but playing on the same tables at the same time is not a problem.

Other facilities include:
- Daily Maid Service
- Fitness Centre with sauna and steam room
- Swimming Pool
- Cinema Room
- 24h Security (Key card Access)

The apartment also offers a free tuk tuk service to the local supermarket which takes about 2 minutes and to the BTS which takes roughly 5 minutes.

The cost for the room is 23,000THB (around $650 US) per month + utilities, a 63,333 THB deposit is required. The deposit can be paid by Stars/FTP transfer but we would prefer that the rent is paid in THB.

Electricity and water are all split evenly among people in the house (~19,000 THB a month) . Everything is month-to-month but we require people give 30 days’ notice before vacating to get their full deposit back. Obviously, people are also responsible for anything they or their guests break/damage/steal.

i can see 3 bedroom w 3 guys to start and one guy leave and the need to fill room. but shouldnt 2 guys go for 2 bedrooms, or is bkk devoid of 2 bedrooms?

Do you not think a $600 us/month electricity bill is a little strange? What were your electricity bills at home like?

Just to clear it up electricity tends to be roughly around 12-14,000 each month at a rate 6 THB/unit

Just FYI the actual cost of electricity is around 3b/unit, so whoever you are renting your apartment off is charging you double that to line their own pockets.

Electricity in Thailand is provided by the government. The rate is the same everywhere. If you are paying 6b/unit it is because the owners think you are a sucker, end of story.

$650 a month isn't much for rent, but it is for the privilege of living with two people you don't know in a city as inexpensive as bangkok. especially with cheap looking furniture and the 1998 spec tv.

that's a pretty good deal for the price. it also saves someone the hassle of apartment hunting. and if you arrive to bkk by yourself and know no one here, you'd be pretty damn lucky to have those roomates and an instant social circle set up.

i think the government rate is somewhere between 3.5 and 4 baht per unit. always too lazy to check the exact number.

i know the fisherman way where vlad stayed charged 7 or 8 baht per unit. nice ripoff but what can you do when you like the place

Nice place, decent price but I hope the 19k are for the whole building and not for the place itself.

Should be hard to run up that much unless you got really old ACs running 24/7 and get charged a really bad markup.

Markups are usual in BKK and thais pay them too as the owner of the building has to take care of all the electrical issues which often arise and it also pays for the backup generator.

I pay 1k at my studio apartment and I got AC running half of the day.

Sometimes weirdly high fees are used for tax avoidance though, but tenants know upfront how much the total bill will be.

no idea but it was definitely overpriced. mai bpen rai. we got more than our monies worth in kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaappppssss.
