i think you are in the wrong threads if you are putting malaysia in front of thailand on anything. the only thing they are good for are visaruns and not even best place for those.

also, i saw a really huge white statue of budda from kata beach, up on like a huge mountain. ne one know how to get that.

i remember i took a motor bike for 5 mins and the guy randomly charged 170 baht. i only gave him 120 and left, but then i met a 2+2er and he sad it should only have cost 40 baht. not that it matters all that much, but they try to nickel and dime you so much, just trying to not get ripped off as much as possible.
from kamala to patong in tuktuk i would say 200-300

from kata to patong in tuktuk 400-500

you can get to the big buddha from chalong. drive to chalong circle. take the first left if coming from kata/karon and just look for the signs, shouldnt be more than 2km from the circle

always get a quote for fares with taxis/tuktuks/motorbiketaxis in phuket and haggle. put in a few words in thai and smile, never raise your voice.

only metered taxis in phuket are FROM airport to place x and sometimes even they try to scam you

Motorbike guys usually have their fees listed in thai on some paper right where they hang out, which gives you a rough idea of the pricings, but generally shouldn't be more than 50.
even after they say they will use the meter make sure they put it on. if not, change taxis.

like others said already a trip like this sounds like hell. i wouldnt make a minute to minute timetable for A HOLIDAY. i wouldnt want to see more than one place a day and then relax the rest of the day. all you would do on your trip is travelling and taking pictures. if that is what you are into then please, go ahead but if you are inexperienced traveller then you will notice pretty soon what kind of trip you are into if you try to see all those places.

[QUOTE=lippy;10731672]Ok. We've booked our tix to Thailand and want to pack a lot of stuff in. My friend has been reading lonelyplanet and came up with a very tentative itinerary. Would some of you be so nice as to go over it and make suggestions?

Quote:
We depart Minneapolis on June 24 (Lip, you would probably just book our flight) and arrive in BK on midnight June 25, we depart BK on July 21. Rough plan and day estimates are:

- BK 3 days, June 26-28

- Then Siem Reap/Angkor Wat for 2 days, June 29-30

- Then Hanoi/Halong Bay for 5 days, July 1-5

- Head back to BK and pick up Jasper, maybe spend one more day there if we like it?

- Then Chiang Mai for 5 days, July 6-10

- Then Tiger Temple for one day, July 11

- Then head South for beaches, Phuket first, two days, July 12-13

- Then Ko Phi Phi for two days, July 14-15 (Lip heads back to BK for flight to Mpls)

- Then Pha Ngan for two days, July 16-17

- Then Ko Tao for two days, July 18-19

- Return to BK, July 20 (Leaves Karbo and I an extra day throughout if something goes bad)
[/b]
have to reply to this more. you are only staying 2 days in most places. you do understand that the first day you will always just spend travelling, dragging your luggage with you and wont in some cases see anything for that day, leaving you with only one day of looking around?

dont go to all of those places. i would make more 5-6 day trips to places like you are doing with chiang mai.

@theguy123-

Most tuk tuks or taxis in Phuket won't go anywhere for less than 300 baht. Sometimes you can get them to drive you 1 or 2 km for a couple hundo but not much more than that and def not to a diff part of the island. A taxi/tuk tuk from Kata to Patong will be 400 baht.

@lippy-

Just WOW dude! Like the others have said that trip would be super exhausting. Another thing I noticed is that you're planning 5 days for Hanoi/Halong. Why? You will have seen enough of Hanoi in a day or two if you really want to go there. I mean, it's a decent city and all and I enjoyed seeing Vietnam but it wasn't a place to go out and have a bunch of fun. Especially not in Hanoi. I don't know what you guys are into but HCM city has a bit more to do and if you want to do some new sport there's great kite-surfing (and probably wind-surfing) in Mui Ne (sp?). For that you'll have to spend at least two days learning and probably want another day or two to play around after.

Never been to Hanoi, but I hear in Vietnam they haggle/scam you way more than anywhere else in SE Asia. Something to consider.

I'll be spending 10 days in Thailand with my wife. What's the best place to chillax? We'll be arriving to BKK and would like to spend as little as possible on travlling while arriving to Thailand. A hospital on the destination is a must, too.

Oh and the time of the trip is on late June. What place has the least rainfall that time?
Ask us about Thailand! Quote
05-20-2009 , 04:40 PM
on paper it looks like june is the least rainiest month of the low season months according to this site http://www.phuketnet.com/weather.htm

in samui it rains around half of what it rains here though according to http://thailandforvisitors.com/south...m-weather.html

but you can never know. last july it didnt rain for 4 weeks here while in could rain every day.

anyways i guarantee that the weather will be better than in Finland (for some reason i am thinking that you are finnish?) which is not a brag though...

oh and about hospitals. phuket has couple international hospitals. spent 2 nights in one of them and it was like staying at a hotel so i think youd be fine
