Kevin Song (who runs WH's poker room), mentioned last night that the casino where Koreans and foreigners can play - Kangwonland, does have a variant of a limit Texas holdem, where you can only raise once. He said he was working on trying to get normal NLHE approved.

Also, the monopoly that the Kangwonland contract benefits from, ends this year, which may open the door for other casino's to open throughout SK for locals to frequent. My local Korean friends who enjoy poker may still have hope.

Anyone else having problems logging onto pokerstars.com site today? Getting that Korean police warning for illegal sites. No problem actual logging into poker client though.

They are protecting their citizens from the evils of online gambling, while at the same time offering their own online gambling with ripoff odds, with the convenience of paying directly from your Korean bank account.

http://www.nlotto.co.kr/common.do?method=main

Then they have Sportstoto with moneylines on sporting events that should be ILLEGAL- ripoff odds! And on the site it also mentions that its illegal to go to other gambling sites to even just check odds, lmao. (They don't want people to know how much they are getting ripped off, lol)

They should block those sites.

FTP's website has been blocked for few years but I know people still playing on there. I don't think this will be a problem even if they block it. Just use vpn to play then.

영등포 is an untapped mine of beautiful woman goodness imo. As many foreigners as I see in itaewon, kangnam and shinchon these days I didn't see any there. There also were zero that I saw in Miasageori the other night. But I would sooner take a date there than attempt to meet someone.

I just checked out last weekends Pokerstars Sunday Million results.

Missoon (South Korea) finished 10th for over $88k.

Pokerrankings only has this player as having only played in 24 tourneys, all this year, and this was his first cash. Wonder if that player posts on 2+2.

EDIT: Just looked him up, hes a 25/50 cash player on stars.

2nd EDIT:

He didn't start playing 25/50 til after he won the 88K then proceeded to donk it off. (just read the cash thread on here)

"Some pretty big Korean whale called missoon at $25/$50 for the past 4 hours just keeps reloading"

what winnings ? he lost it all?

pretty sure if you deposit 100 bucks run it up to 100k and lose 100k its like you lost 100 bucks but I could be wrong?

You're wrong in the USA. Those earnings count as earnings and put you in a new tax bracket. The losses are then deducted on your taxes. It's not fun. Uncle Sam is gonna get his. Not sure how it works here though.

OT but regarding taxes on lottery tickets or sportstoto parlay tickets - if you are paid 100-1 odds or less you pay no tax, but if is over that you are taxed 23% upfront when you go to cashout your ticket.

Found this out the hard way when I hit a 6-team moneyline parlay that paid 105-1 (5k won ticket). Instead of getting 525K won back, I got back ~405K. If I would of known about the tax at that time, I would of just played a 5-teamer and actually netted more cash winnings.

* FYI- Even though sportstoto 97% of the time has terrible odds, but sometimes you can find value on "off lines" . I've seen points off as much as 5 pts in basketball. On another angle- On huge moneyline favorites, even though the line will be listed as 1.01 (as in risking $100 to win $1), when you put in in a 2tm parlay the minimum p/o is 1.10 which therefore can be exploited, even with subpar odds on other events. Last year there were some crazy Basketball lines of 30+ point favorites in basketball, parlaying 2 moneyline favs on sportstoto was better than lines offered by pinny or any other book.

For example, for mon night I have Knicks 1.01 and Clippers 1.17 (payout should pay 118, but it pays out 120) For comparison, Pinny would pay 119, 5dimes 118 at current lines.

Actually I'm not though I have seen them before. They're beyond depressing and anybody here for any length of time really should have no use nor need. I was on a legit date with a woman from that area. Yeongdeungpo on the other hand was just straight up crawling with beautiful women and no foreigners.

And to be fair, miasageori isn't nearly as far off the beaten path as some of the places I've been working recently. I was in Yeoncheon yesterday. Talk about bfe.
