hey guys

trying to decide on where my friends and I should stay in Seoul for a couple of weeks. I actually want to try hongdae but from what i remember it was kind of grungy and whatever sprinkled with some cool stuff here and there.

Otherwise I was gonna shoot for apgujeong or gangnam. Any thoughts/advice would be helpful, thanks.

----

btw thanks for the heads up about chuseok, it's on the 18th-20th and that's when I was planning on coming in : / From what I remember, sunday was really really dead, I forget what fri and sat night was like

Just go to Itaewon during Chuseok. There'll still be something fun to do.

If you're opposed to the grunge, Gangnam is probably the way to go. Just keep in mind, everything is more expensive there, especially the nightlife.

If you want to hang out with foreigners and Koreans, check out Itaewon.

I'd personally vote Hongdae as I've always had a good time starting at Hongdae Park.

so any cheap hostels near walker hill casino?

Haven't been there but apparently there are a bunch of motels right in front. Generally in Korea a love motel is much better value than a hostel or hotel.

True. Sometimes the atmosphere is a bit strange (creepy), but the room is usually very clean and spatious/comfortable.

By the way, I think meeting some of the 2+2ers in Seoul for some drinks (read Soju) would be nice. Anyone up for that? Most likely in Hongdae, as it's the best place for that imo.

Hey, I moved into a new apartment 1.5 weeks ago. Now the real estate agent is calling my GF non-stop about how we owe her money.

I didn't sign anything with real estate agent or agree to pay, and all she did was point to the apartment complex across the street, then call my landlord.

I can politely tell her to f off right?

If she found you the apartment then you almost definitely owe her money.

Tenants always pay a fee to the real estate agent when they move into a new apartment.

You used a real estate service, the agent found you a place and contacted the landlord, you took the place. Now you don't want to pay the agent that helped you? What did I miss?

How did you do?

I checked their website/facebook page, someone asked how the 1st place finisher was allowed to play (since his country is listed as being being from Korea). Most likely he has dual-citizenship, but you never know. I met a Korean American at the tables who told me they never even checked his id or passport when he entered either (This was his first time at WH). We all know there aren't any Koreans illegally playing at WH or 7luck lol.

Ok, sounds fair. I'm always paranoid of being scammed ripped off being 21 and waygookin.

The reason I didn't think I owed her the money is because that seems like something the landlord would pay since there was 0 mention of me paying or contract when I met at office. 2 she first said I owed her $500 and after I said thats absurd, she said ok ok, $200, just seemed like she was going for a quick scam.

Is $200 fair? I'm staying at this apartment for 2 months for $2k with no deposit.

10% isn't bad. You could have ur gf call another agent and ask what is normal fee.

The fee should be calculated with this formula. Apparently many people are unfamiliar with the formula and real agents often try to charge people more.

fee={deposit + (monthly rent X 70} X 0.5%) and the fee shouldnt be over 200,000won unless the total money is over 50,000,000won

The period of the lease is irrelevant.

Hi everyone,

Which method do you use to cash out from Pokerstars in Korea please? I wanted to do a direct bank wire to my Korean bank account but the minimum amount is 50k USD. (I want to withdraw around €4k)

This leaves me with three options: check, Netteller and Moneybooker.

Checks can only be sent to me in Euro, I am thus afraid that the conversion rate is going to be high but it might be the same with Netteller and Moneybooker

Thanks in advance for your help!

The minimum amount is $50k? That seems crazy to me.

Anyway, I cash out from pokerstars to skrill, then use my skrill card here (or cash out from an ATM, I don't think I pay fees for that (or very low)).

Though, I can only cash out ~$250/day with that method.
I needed to get $10k so I sent from Deutsche bank to Woori Bank. I paid around $100-150 conversion fee, which is pretty low in my opinion.

Different thing :

I know we talked about casinos in Seoul quite a lot in this thread, but could you guys tell me where is the best place to play cash game PLO (or mtt plo if that exists)? Also, can you buy chips using a Korean bank account card, or do you have to pay big fees (4-5%) like in some casinos?

Thanks!

I haven't played in Seoul yet but in Daegu there are ATMs on the casino floor... just withdraw money and buy your chips. I imagine Seoul is similar.
