No news stories about this but tons of threads on Waygook.org, English teacher site for teachers in Korea. Mostly it's done that the teacher is let go due to misconduct even after having no problems for X amount of months.
It's pretty common knowledge among foreign teachers who have been in Korea for some time that coming out is a job killer and you can't do anything about it.

Also interesting is the slander laws. 1 female teacher made a negative post about private school and got sued since she was still in Korea. They said it damaged their schools reputation even though the information was completely true.
I understand a few people have been here in Korea longer than me but my information comes from first hand accounts of thousands of other teachers who pass information along via FB and waygook.
I never said I know all the laws or other things just trying to help people not make some of the mistakes I made.
****, my first year I was driving a motorcycle with no license and no insurance 45 mins to work and back each day. My boss knew, and some Official education staff knew to. If I had an accident I would have been in Jail for that.
I only way I learned what the DUI limit is was when a buddy got pulled over after drinking a beer and driving home. It's .05 fyi. 1 beer and better take a taxi. He was .051.
I also found out that if you move to a new place you need to tell immigration within 10 days or you get a fine. So it doesn't matter if you sign the lease in Nov, like I did, but don't move until Jan you could get a fine. Be nice if you told me that in English!!!
