I thought it applied for foreigners in Korea first, until I read about shin Ramyeon.

I've never met people more polite than Koreans, so I don't really "get" the joke.

Love the image.

How long have you been in ROK, Kojika? I thought they were polite to me as well, but once I learned some Korean I heard what they really thought about foreigners.

I've been in China for 2 years and have found the locals to be far more pleasant towards me than they were in ROK. I've had half the trouble with locals in 2 years in PRC than I did in 1 year in ROK.

I m not Korean but Belgian, nothing linked to Korea except friends. But nice try anyway, again you sound like a very nice person.

I haven't lived in Korea but I've beem there twice for a month and spent a lot of time with Koreans (friends and "randm" adults) in Brussels.
I know some of them don't like foreigners, but they usually "love" me because I know a lot about the culture and can talk to them in Korean (for most adults, it's the first time they spoke to a white guy)

Ha ha ha okay. No other white foreigner teacher has ever (and I mean ever) spoke Korean to a Korean person. WTF are you joking? I met the guy who does his whole show in Korean and he's a RED HEAD IRISH guy, super nice fyi.
U're so gullible it's amazing. Next, you're going to tell me Korea has 4 seasons, does your country have for 4 season?
Wait, I have more. Korean people can't get Swine flu, Kimchi makes them immune. H ah ahha lol they believe this stuff, it's on the news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When did I say that ? Of course there are other foreigners who are much better at Korean than me and speak with other Koreans.

I was just saying that even Koreans who never met foreigners before were really interested to know more about me, and were not racist like you describe them ALL.

And all countries have their stupid beliefs... cant believe you are from the USA and say something like that.

But once again with this post, you show great respect and I wonder why you think Koreans are rude to you.

By the way, why do you stay in a country you hate that much ?

Foreigners who speak the local language fluently will certainly have a better time than those who don't. Even if you aren't fluent, they'll at least be happy that you're trying. Also, you'll have a much better experience in cities like Busan or Seoul than in the rural areas for a variety of reasons.

If you spend time around English-speaking Koreans, you'll also have a more satisfying experience because they have already shown an interest in western culture and getting foreign friends. Your average local will not be as open-minded. Plus, they can help you with any trouble you may have with locals who do not speak English.

I felt you were a little off-kilter based on your previous posts, but you might be outright crazy.

Earlier I was poking at phils for being a grammar Nazi, but your post is just shameful.

Not as stupid as this:

Fan Death

Quote:

I believe that people who do this are extremely insecure. I see it from some foreigners in China. They stay here almost exclusively to complain and bash the country they chose to live just so that they feel superior to others. If they went to a country where there was little to complain about, they would lose their sense of superiority over the population.

Agree 100% with that post, and yeah the fan death is hilarious. One of my friend's parent was worrying for me cause she heard the fan when I was sleeping !

Though, none of my friends believe this, only 40+

The whole Kimchi stops swine flu was from a tv program with a Korean doctor telling Koreans they are basically superhuman.

I was wrong to say that all Koreans are racist but racism in Korea is very subtle so much so that it can be missed.
I asked my Korean teacher if her parents would let her marry a non-Korean and she said "her dad would never speak to her again."
Common thing I see is when you walk into a store and clerk doesn't greet you but a Korean person walks in and they get greeted. Even after you've spoke Korean to the clerk. First few times I just thought the clerk was rude but after he greeted every other

I've stayed in Korea due to the amazing job and great community of foreigners. A community that has raised a 50K for different charities but you rarely hear about the good things that we do.

SuperBob: I don't feel superior to Korean people in any way. I just don't give into this whole "Please understand my culture" excuse that gets used to explain things that just shouldn't be allowed or tolerated.
Oprah made a comment about Korean people getting more cosmetic surgery that other countries and she received death threats about her comment.
