OK so I am American and just moved to S. Korea. Can somebody help me out with the internet pokerz? Which sites can I play on? I will definitely hit up Stars, but would like to play on a few others as well. I was thinking PartyPoker and Absolute. I have no idea how legit Absolute is though. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why don't you try downloading and installing the programs yourself?

Well, I guess you don't understand the question, so I apologize for being too vague. I am wondering what the legitimate sites are, and if I have anything to worry about if I put my money on them. I am also wondering the general state of internet poker in S. Korea as I recall hearing about people being hacked several years ago. Some questions I have for example are: what sites pay out in a timely manner? Which ones have the most action? Is there anything specific so S. Korea that I should be aware of? I have had a hard time finding anything about online poker in Korea and thought this would be a good place to inquire. I am just trying to find out about the best/largest/softest sites that I will be able to play from here.
I am actually having trouble with PartyPoker, as every time I try to download it redirects me to the insta-play screen. Doesn't seem to work. PokerStars is also being annoying because they are requiring a landline which I don't have.
Any help is appreciated, and I will be happy to help anybody out who is considering moving here. I live in Busan, the second largest city in Korea.

absolute/UB is probably on the same level as FTP at the moment, the only difference is, absolute is still up and running. I plan to move to seoul in the near future, and going the pokerstars route.

there is no reason to play on AB when you can play on every other site while in korea. stars asked me for a landline but i just gave them my cell number and had no issue. if they continue to hassle you just go to a hotel and ask them to call you there or do it from your work.

after close to two years in seoul moving to greener SE asian pastures. i'll have like 4 days in korea in between new york and thailand. anyone have a resturant recommendation for seoul?

i'll miss incheon airport and the joy of 12 tabling 6max hyperturbos on superfast internet while chugging cass at 9am

either a good seafood place or a fancy korean BBQ with sick hanwoo beef.

like 20-60k a head. my friends are all english teachers and tend to be more cheap than me.

I don't know any seafood restaurants : /

Can anyone confirm the rumor that 7 Luck COEX (and maybe Hilton) are re-opening their poker rooms? Heard this from someone at Walker Hill last week.

OP, I am torn between moving to Shanghai and Seoul. Any information and comparison you can give me on the two cities would be greatly appreciated. (Anyone else feel free to chime in too.)

I was only in shanghai for a day and didn't get to experience the nightlife. I've heard mixed reviews.

Do Seoul if you're willing to learn the language, that city is the super nuts as a bachelor who has some money

I don't have much money... yet.

I've heard that teaching English actually pays decent, so I'm considering doing that. At the end of the day, I want to own my own businesses, but I'm not sure what options there are for that in Seoul as a Western foreigner (if you have any input on this topic, it'd be greatly appreciated).

I mean Korea isn't that expensive imo, I probably wrote about expenses here somewhere but my rent was something like $900/mo and then I probably spent $1100 on average for food and drinks for the whole month.

That's pretty cheap imo and u can def. go cheaper.

you can live on 1k a month easy. also your school will be paying your rent so unless you are running up $50 bar tabs every night you'll be saving 1k USD a month.

the nightlife in shanghai seemed pretty good though you have to wait like 10min for a drink at a club.

could you tell us something about night-life and crime rate in Seoul ?
Or are there other cities in Korea where the night-life is more attractive ?

thanks in advance

1) it's awesome and ranges in price but will be expensive if you're not just drinking at a bar.

2) it's the safest large city i've ever been to. i never once felt unsafe, even alone at 3am

3) there is no city in korea that compares to seoul nightlife. there are some other places i've enjoyed in my travels: busan and kwangju specifically, but they don't touch seoul for nightlife.

I know a few guys that ended up doing it but they all married Koreans first and stayed there indefinitely.

i've walked around seoul at like 4am with a couple thousand dollars on me and an ipad in the 'worst' neighborhood (itaewon) and not felt worried at all. definitely the safest large city i've ever been to. one upside of the fact that there are so few tourists there is that no one tries to rip you off.
