Short rentals are tough to find, but possible if you look around. Probably have to check online or get here (rent a hotel) and find a Hasook Jip or the like.
Two best places to live: Gangnam and Hong-dae. I guess Itaewon is good for foreigners but it's grimy/sketchy/not really where Koreans go. I sometimes go there for after-night parties and actually had a great time with my friend and two models from Brazil and Uzbek. But it's not a place that you want to spend too much time at.
Gangnam - Basically like Mid-Town manhattan with tons of restaurants, clubs, night clubs, etc. It's crazy and there are sooo many hot korean women. Expensive but I'm sure you don't care too much about that.
Hongdae - More of a college district but equally as fun as Gangnam and not as pricy. Lots of women's colleges and uni's around there. I was just there last night and it was pretty solid even at 3 am.
Apguchang, Myundgong, and Yongsan are more quiet places with decent amount of restaurants/stuff to do (and relatively close to Gangnam/Hongdae). Might be cheaper to live there, but the two places that I mentioned are the absolute nuts.
