Also, a lot of ppl seem to have some withdrawl / ip blockage problems. I used to know a guy in Korea who would give you asian-version of FTP that lets you download/play @ FTP.
He would also trade your FTP money into Korean won for you within 2~3 days, I believe he charges small fees (not sure). I dunno if he still does that but I could probably give you his email if you pm me.

Anyone know anything about Wonju (sp), or the gangwon (sp) province in general?

A few friends in the TALK program are trying to get me to join them over there, and it's sounding very inticing to do a 6 mo program that gives me more free time to grind/explore

don't know anything. Make sure the internet speed is fast over there or you got no place to grind :P

I saw your photos in the other thread btw. Really nice, looking forward to seeing your photos of Korea if you make it out over here

Blinds are normally 1,000/2,000W. Most people seem to buy in for around 400,000. The players are unbelievably bad. However, the rake is absurd (10% up to 15,000W) and makes the game unbeatable for anything beyond minimum wage.

Plus, I'm on a teacher's salary and can't afford that much for a buy-in.

Yeah, that's what kept me from playing. Hell, I'd lose less money in the long run playing blackjack than poker.

I spent a few weeks in Wonju while I was over there and I would say that it's kind of like a small city American wise... think Indianapolis in Korea. It's not Seoul, Busan or Daegu so the expat community isn't as large. It does offer a lot of the amenities that the larger cities have and you'll be fighting your way through less expats. That said, the folks there are more rural than those in the huge cities so you would have to adjust accordingly to that. Again, think typical New Yorker vs someone from a city like Omaha.

There is plenty to do in Wonju for the normal mid 20s guy. Not too sure about the club scene but there are plenty of bars.

Don't be fooled by the proximity to Seoul on the map. The KTX doesn't run that direction and I know from experience that the 90 minutes you're quoted on bus travel time can balloon past double on a normal congested traffic day. Not sure about slow trains as I don't fit on them.

There is a large American military installation close by (Camp Long) so you will see Americans there.

But for the love of god, if you have a chance to spend 6 months in Korea and you're open-minded culturally I highly recommend this chance.

yeah since it's illegal for korean citizens to gamble in casinos, they don't have much exposure to it, but the ones who do love it really love it.

there's a cafe that gives out drinks and food as prizes since that's legal, like 50ppl showed up and re-bought like mad lol
