What are some good nightclubs/hangouts in Ipanema and Leblon to meet local chicks? I'll be there right after the official end of Carnival but I guess it keeps going through the next weekend?

Will there already be a ton of stuff going on in the streets to not have to worry about finding places to go?

Also, I've seen good things about Nuth in barra. What are your thoughts of this place?

Yes. The official end is wednesday, but in Rio we still have action till monday..
there will be prenty of stuff in the street.. try to find a schedule on internet or check street parties at your hotel..

I dont like much the nightlife in Rio to be honest... be the tourists seems to like..
I would go to zerozero in Gavea (its near)
there are other places, suchs as Nuth in barra.. Club Praia in Lagoa..

i dont know where are you from.. but i wouldnt expect THAT much !!
tho, im sure you will have fun!

Looks like I'm changing my stay in Rio to only one week...are Sao Paulo and florianopolis worth visiting? I heard Sao Paulo is mostly a business oriented concrete jungle and very dangerous, is this true?

Florianopolis is very good for partying during summer.. also a beautiful place.

Sao Paulo is good for food and culture... there will not be much party action during summer

I love Brazil. It was my second time there now. I was there for 5 weeks this year.. from 7th of december till 12 of january. Mostly stayed in Belo Horizonte but went to Rio for a new year (stayed in apartment at copacabana) and it was awesome. I went to Rio scenarium(great but a lot of tourists),Funk party in favela(name of the club is Castle rock or something like that. It was awesome!),new years eve at copacabana beach(sick vibe when 2.5mil people celebrate new year),Exaltasamba concert (the best concert ever),Grupo Revelação concert.
I would say that that party in favela was one of my most favourite party in Brazil. But yeah I was scared there but I have brazilian friends who took me there so I came home safely..
Brazil is awesome and I will definitely go back again, probably this year.

I have lived in Sao Paulo for a while and I would say Rio is probably more dangerous than SP. The favelas in Sao Paulo are much farther away from the central parts of the city. Where as in Rio the favelas are right next to the "normal" areas.

It is true that Sao Paulo can feel distant and overwhelming due to the fact that is ridiculously big and almost no one speaks English. So without local friends it is very very difficult to get "in" to the city. But to me it is strange to say that there is nothing to do in the summer. In a city where lives 20 milloin people there is always something to do, you just need to know where to go.

I saw a video where people from Brazil are flying like crazy to Florida to shop for Jeans cause it is so much cheaper? Is it true that clothes are that expensive there?

hey there,

I'm atm in Floripa and want to spent my last 3 weeks in Brazil in Rio from beginning april to mid/end april.

Is there maybe some available spot in a grindhouse over there? I don't need much besides reliable internet and it should be clean.

If not do you have any suggestions where to look for flat for around 3 weeks. Got some quotes today from Ipanema places and even if I knew it would be expensive the prices they quotes cannot be real bc no normal person would be able to afford this... over 8k $ for 90m² apt for 22 days? orly???

anyways, I'm Tim, 27 from Germany, living abroad since 3 years though, main residence is Malta. I would consider myself as easy going person who gets along with almost anybody...

peaze

I have a place in Ipanema, 3 blocks from the metro and 2 blocks from one of the world's greatest city beaches, for 1700 reais/month ($950 US) starting in April if anyone is interested. Contact me soon cause my friend is moving out and I have to let the owner know by the end of the week.

(the dude above has decided to go to BA... I have lived in both and can say that this place has the advantages of easier chicks if are gringo looking, more intelligent/worldly chicks, better weather, more relaxed Porteño-free culture, and amazing beaches... the food is similar and it is a bit more expensive, especially going out.)
