HI
Thanks for posting on my thread about the rio poker flat.
I actually read yours before posting mine, but now that you mention it I have some more things that I would like to ask you..

1.If someone decides to play higher stakes in a live game he will have to keep large ammoutns of cash in the appartment. Also he will have to take a cab waiting before the casino I guess... how risky is all that do u think?
and is cabs the proper way to travel anyways?

2.You said a studio appartment in ipanea will cost u 500us$ a month... is this the price for a crapy unfurnished one? Because after long internet research I havent seen anything nice for that little money...

3.Where are your favorite poker clubs? also is there anything different in those than in one that I might find in London...(like high rake or danger of false players, are they shady ect)

4.How safe is walking though ipanea at night? And in general would you recomend to dress only in T****s and carry little pocker money there?

5.Is there still frequent fights among the police and drugmafia in rio?

6.On beach clubs can u also find house electro minimal music or very little?

cheers!

- To be honest, i think its risky! if the cab driver is with bad intentions.. as soon as he find out you are a tourist(when he see you).. he may try to scam you or something. Foreigners usually say that people from Rio scary them too much and its not that bad.. but since i believe you will carry serious money.. is good to know the risks. FWIW, I think the best choice is to rent a car(check how to make ur license works here etc..)

2.You said a studio appartment in ipanea will cost u 500us$ a month... is this the price for a crapy unfurnished one? Because after long internet research I havent seen anything nice for that little money...

- I probably based this number on something that i saw. I actually said 1000 reais. At the time 1usd = 2reais.. now 1usd = 1.6 reais. Thats how things change in 1 years and half. Also, the prices of apartaments increase more than 50% from 2010 to 2011. Today i saw a crappy one for 1800 reais, unfurnished and with 30m².

3.Where are your favorite poker clubs? also is there anything different in those than in one that I might find in London...(like high rake or danger of false players, are they shady ect)

- I only played at two places in Rio. Carioca club (at Jardim Botanico neighborhood) and at Sinuca Catete (at Catete neighborhood). I didnt enjoyed the experience so much. Your first feeling is that everything is very bad organised (at least compared to casinos). The rake is 5% uncapped and i never experienced people colluding against another player... but i already saw 2 people get to the flop and say "lets check down ?".. and they both checked till showdown because they were friends. Its also very usual to see board cards even when the action doesnt get there(rabbit hunt or smth ?).. which in my opinion is very annoying

4.How safe is walking though ipanea at night? And in general would you recomend to dress only in T****s and carry little pocker money there?

- From posto 9 to posto 10 (postos are save guard places at the beach) and leblon are really safe. Dress as you want, and no need to carry big money. Also, you dont want to walk alone at night showing your iphone to everybody.

5.Is there still frequent fights among the police and drugmafia in rio?

- Last year we had several important fights. The police was getting the control of the slums from the drugmafia, but its been awhile that i dont see it anymore. But this happens at far places from ipanema and leblon; dont worry about that.

6.On beach clubs can u also find house electro minimal music or very little?

- We dont have many beach clubs in Rio (i dont know what you are refering too). But the nightclubs generally play electro house or electro house + hiphop or other styles

cheers!

-Cheers!

Hi 40s !

I want to live in Brazil with permanent visa, and Living there earning cash from Poker.

I don't want to married.

I have read that I can invest 50 000$ to some buisness in Brazil, but I've read also that if I'll get this kind of visa, it will be expire up for 2 years, that's true ?

There are some different options to get permanent visa ?

I really want to live in Brazil ! It's my dream like AA on a big pot !
Please, help me if you can answer

BTW, Im from Eastern Europe, Poland and I think that's all.

Greetings !

If you invest $50k in the country, you'll get a permanent Visa.

The 2-year is the temporary-work one, which you would get by signing to work in a Brazilian firm. You might have confused them.

So, if you're willing to invest, it's your best way to get the permanent one.

But I Have last question about it, tell me if Im right.

When I'll invest that money in a company and become a partner shareholder, as they written, the visa will be expire ? or that visa will be for end of my life ?

Sorry to say this but this is an old law(50k $)! Now you need to invest 150k R$ and you need to generate jobs for min. 10 workers in 2 years. Or you can invest 600k R$ and you need no workers.

BTW...When you take out the Investors Visa you have to explain the nature of your business(you need a BusinessPlan). Later, the Polícia Federal, will ask you to prove that you have been engaged in the type of business stated on your application. If you have not been involved in business of that nature then you will be asked to leave the country.

Yes, absolutely. You can invest your money in a Business but than you must be working for the company. After 2 years the Polícia Federal will prove that you a really a Businessman and not only a "Tourist".

Anyone have any recommendations for short-term apartment rentals? Looking for a 2-bedroom for a month probably starting in early January (in between New Year's and Carnival). My friend is more price conscious than I, but definitely want to stay in Ipanema or Leblon based on people's recommendations in this thread (just not next to the bordering Favellas ).

We are planning a trip to South America for NYE and for about 6 weeks, and wanna spend roughly 2 weeks in Rio (Ipanema is the place to be right?)

There are 4 of us, can anyone help us finding a decent apartment for a couple weeks or give us some pointers? Have googled and sent off some emails but found nothing really yet. Thanks in advance!

When I move to Brazil, I need to bring my three 30" monitors with me. Am I going to get smashed with some outrageous tax? Brazilians tell me it is super standard to haul a load of designer jeans in your suitcase and sell them for like $400 each, but I fear this may be a bit more obvious with so many huge screens.

You will get smashed with some outrageous tax!
or maybe not..
the truth is that you suppose to get smashed.. but its brazil.. things dont work as they suppose to..
even tho.. it may be cheaper to pay the taxes than buy new ones here!

I've considered doing something similar to this(jeans/iphones/macbook) and have never been searched on my 3 trips. Adding stress to traveling might not be worth the few k I would make,

I have found a few options for apartment rentals and Copacabana is a lot cheaper than Ipanema, but not sure whether to go for it.

One one hand everyone here says stay in Ipanema, but have heard that it is a touristy area and that Copacabana is a lot better to see Brazilian locals. On the other hand also heard Copacabana is not as safe. Which would you guys recommend? Should I pay a little more for Ipanema?
