Hi Johnny!

maybe the prices are higher online..
but it could be hard to find a place in a good area..(ipanema/leblon)
and it will possibly be more expensive to stay in a hotel while u search for something than arrive with something already booked

Hi Jay,

i have a friend sho kitesurf... in Rio he does at leblon and barra beaches... when the weather is good, you will see a buuuunch of kitesurfers
its more likely to have good conditions to kitesurf on beaches near barra

about florianopolis i dont know..

and he travels very often to Joao Pessoa (northeast of brasil) just to kitesurf.. but dont expect to find cheap flights to there

Hey 40s.

Thanks for the answer. I read a little about the difference between Rio and Florianopolis and it seems everyone favours Florianoplis a lot. What do you think comparing the two?

Do you know what Florianoplis would be like for Carnival? I'm hearing Rio is mostly tourists when Carnival is on and most of the travelers i've met have different plans for it. What do you think of Rio in Carnival?

Many thanks.

Hi Jay,

i like florianopolis a lot.. there is a very good fancy scenary of partying that i dont find in Rio that much
the city is also beautiful and cleaner... very smaller than rio(rio has 7mi people and florianopolis 300 thousend)

for carnival, rio is the best choice.. u have street carnival running all day in all the city.. u have the official(and the best) parades etc..
in florianopolis, the city gets full for carnival too.. u def have nice clubs and nice paradors.. more like ibiza style..
but u r not meeting what carnival is

so it kinda depends on u.. what style u prefer to party and if u care about these cultural things (imo its nice to experience the carnival in rio and the official parades.. i never realize how big and different it was till i go there with foreigner friends)

that was a general view.. feel free to ask more

Rio vs Florianopolis, pros and cons? I'm planning on going to both, but interested in what you think is good and bad about each choice. Assume living there for 1-4 months.

I'm thinking Rio would be bigger, more things to do, where as Florianopolis would have less things to do,still have a good party scene in summer(brazillian summer) but be generally safer/richer? Is this true, and is there anything else?

yes
pretty much this..
considering that u have time to visit both, i guess there is not much to think..do both
if u arent going to florianopolis during summer.. just make sure there is something going on there ( if u like big parties etc )

idk what else could i say that i didnt yet...

but feel free to ask more specific questions

hey 40's, i'm looking to stay in florianopolis for 2-4 weeks and am looking on homeaway for a spot with a buddy, do you recommend any certain part of it near the action and best beaches?

Jurere looks like the best beach lifestyle but Lagoa da Conceicao seems to have some nice beaches as well as better nightlife, not sure if we are renting a car yet so maybe it is best to stay in Lagoa de Conceicao

also advice on what internet provider is easiest/best to set up

Thanks

i guess if u can pay to stay in jurere its better... just rent a car and u will be fine..
in summer.. no doubt that jurere is the best option...nightlife and day parties are awesome.. and its very safe and fancy
important thing too.. during summer.. trafic is absolutly horrible...

I'm looking to go to Rio in the next couple of months for about 10 weeks to surf, train BJJ and get a sun tan. lol

I want to know if anyone knows if English cash machine cards work in many ATM's out there?

Also what is the general view of Brazilian Jui Jitsu players out there, is it considered a low class sport by locals?

Many thanks

Hi,

im always in touch with foreigners students here.. and i guess they dont have much problem to cashout.. anyway.. i guess i should contact your bank and ask how to proceed..

im almost sure that Jiu Jitsu is not a low class sport... all these brazilians world champions like Anderson Silva, play jiu jitsu.. and its respected..
also.. u will not have problem to find places to train, if u need..

Hey, I'm headed to Rio shortly for 4 days on the way to BsAs... most of the good looking room rentals or hostels I was looking at are in Copacabana? Is Ipanema really a lot better?

I'm into beach, tourist ****, socializing, bars, etc.
