Do you know if they have card clubs too?

thanks for any info
buzios is a small city, with a good party scene on summer...
the city is not full on november..

florianopolis is a medium city(300k habitants) and its full on summer with a very good party scene..

imo, florianopolis is better than buzios... but i like to party 24/day..
in florianopolis u will find day parties.. night parties and everything..

with u wanna chil(at home), maybe buzios is fine too... because the beach is crazy in buzios.. very full..

well.. i guess i didnt answer ur question completly...
feel free to ask more..

I want to do 2 weeks in South America, and right now am considering Rio and BA.

What makes the most sense for flights? I'm coming from DC, and thinking of flying to Rio first, staying for 5-6 days or so, flying to BA, staying another 6 days then heading home.

Is there anything going on in late October/November that I should plan for? Better logistics? Other countries/cities that I should plan for?

Hi 40s,

Thank you for this great thread! For my own site I wrote an article about the best places to live in the world as a poker player, and the first article is about Rio. Although I've been there myself you answers were of great help for the article, so thanks for that.

I had one question though: do you know anything about taxes and poker in Brazil?

You can read my article here: Best places to live as a poker player: Rio de Janeiro

Hello,

I just want to say I was in Rio for about a week in July and LOVED the city - everything about it.

I also lived in Buenos Aires for about 9 months, and honestly after visiting Rio I think I would have preferred to live in Rio, or at least spend more time there. The only downside is the price, but I think one could live there fairly reasonably if they take their time finding a good value apartment and not blowing money eating out and drinking a lot.

Hi Donnie,

the website is great, and ill definitly look up for the continuation of the series.. and thanks for mention me and this thread.
before answear your question, i would like to say that Rio is not the capital of Brazil.. the capital is Brasília...
tho, Rio is the second biggest city, behind Sao Paulo, and the city who receive more tourists.. around 40% people who comes to Brazil, comes to Rio..

About the taxes, as brazilian and resident, the income taxes are up to 27,5%.
99% os poker players dont declare this money, and who really needs puts as "another income"
i really dont know how u need to proceed if you are foreigner
it probably depends on your visa (thats something i think u should comment on all cities)
well.. im not gona say much to dont say bs.. but its pretty close this..

Cya

Thanks for your reply. I feel very ashamed about the capital, rookie mistake! Of course I know that Rio is not the capital...slip of the pen. Changed it already.

Really want to go back to Rio soon, after a lot of travelling still my favorite place in the world. Def recommend it to everyone!

Ugh... looking for flights from DC -> Rio -> Buenos Aires and back, but they are crazy expensive.

Any tips for finding something < $1700 for the total trip?

check out www.despegar.com and www.cheapoair.com and you may find something pretty cheap. I got a roundtrip flight from nyc to BA and back for 750USD.

hey guys!

I will ask here because I dont want to open new thread.

I am going to Brazil for christmas and new year and I am going to travel back and forth. I will stay in Belo Horizonte most of the time but going to Porto de Galinhas for new year and Rio after new year so I would like to know how expensive is to stay in Rio(average hotel) and Porto de Galinhas for few days at each place(hotel, food, clubbing, restavrants, taxi,...)

If anyone got any idea I would be happy for all informations.

Anyone has any good alternatives to stay in Rio?

I want to come over to Rio on the 1st of November, and stay for 2 months possibly until 29th December. I want to sign up for portugese course which is like 3h/day. But the option with this school is to stay with a host family. It's like 1300R minimum up to 2K+ so it's not cheap for the conditions they give, and they prolly get mad if I get home drunk with a girl. Dunno.

I'd prefer getting just a room, but 2 month stay is real short. I'm studying at university in Poland now, but if I skip classes for 2 months I'll be alright. Can't do any longer than that unfortunately.

Any suggestions ?

hard question... general sounds too.. general.. haha

let me try.. buzios is a small city 2/3 hours far from Rio.. its a very noum touristic destination, nightclubs and beautiful beaches.. (its almost an island).. kind expenstive.. but probably one of the best places to go for the reasons mentioned before (specially nightclubs.. the beaches u can find in a bunch of other cities)
nothing to do during the week and very full during the summer

well.. thats a general idea..

I'm from the UK. I'm 23.

I want a place that has a lot of things to do, around 500k people, not much more or less. Clubs, Bars, Restaurants, Young People, universities, that kind of scene.

Any recommendations on what companies are reputable for furnished apartments? And what should I expect to pay? I am looking for a 1BR or 2BR in Ipanema for about 4-6 weeks in December/January.
