If you are about to live in portugal and you are young and you just want to play online i have no doubts that the best place is coimbra.

You can rent a 2 bedroom house for near 500€. It's a city of students with a lot of hot chicks and night live 5 day's a week. Tuesday's and thursdays are the best days to go out.

The city is beautifull and friendly, you can get drunk really cheap and the discos costs 5€!
And you have a really good advantage compared to lisbon, you have almost no criminality.

How difficult is it for a US Citizen to move to Portugal?

I'm guessing 3 months only then back to US?

Sounds great actually. I was just hoping to live healthy life, but nightlife is big + in case I go out sometimes.

how is the cost of living there relative to lisbon and a US major city - say NYC? could i get a decent apartment for under $1000
hmm, i would say that it depends a lot on location.

there are prime locations in Cascais (the sea line) and prime locations in Lisbon (chiado, restelo, lapa, expo...), but i would say that prices can be pretty even amongst the two cities and definitely a lot cheaper than NYC...

it has been answered already ott.

for US citizens and for stays up to 90 days it`s super easy.

for long-term residence it`s not that easy but still easy or doable.

a member of this forum and citizen from the US has moved here and got a long-term residency quite easily (after a sea of burocracy, yup we are kings on paperwork).

Olá!

I am half portuguese (madeirense), and I am living in Norway. I am planning a trip to Porto, to see os drãgoes play live (sou portista!!), either against Beira Mar, or against Sporting if it is even remotely possible to get tickets.

So, I am considering making it a weekend trip (thursday through monday), and because I am a poker player too I obviously want to check out the casino at Espinho. Which games are running there (Cash games, donkaments), and what stakes? I am thinking in terms of regular games. Sorry if this has been mentioned several times, I haven't read the entire thread, I am sorry to say.

Second: do you know if I have to be a member of a Casa do Porto or Super Dragões to get tickets to the stand where the ultras (Super Dragões) are singing? Unfortunately there is no Casa do Porto in Norway, so I am not a sócio. I know most of the songs though.

This will be my first trip to the northern region of Portugal, as I almost always travel to Madeira when I fly home to visit family.

Thank you for your time senhor. Força Porto!! ;D

Around 4AM Lisbon time my internet went out and my mobile internet USB device went out as well. Very disconcerting, considering that the only reason I have the mobile internet is for backup when there is an outage with my home line. I'm just wondering if anyone else happened to be online at that time. I had finished my poker session fortunately. I have MEO for fiber optic and Vodafone broadband for the backup. Neither was working from about 4-5 AM today.

Vodafone is crap when it comes to being reliable.

I strongly suggest you to swtich to Optimus Kanguru, I have it for like 4 years and I'm very happy with it.

Regarding MEO..., switch to zon

Yeah, MEO is the worst. Unfortunately my landlord chose the internet. May have to talk about that.

I'm planning a trip on late May / early June. I have a wife and two small children (2-year-old and a 8-month-old). Which place would you recommend for us?
  • There needs to be beginner-intermediate surf
  • Child friendly
  • No concrete holiday resort ****
  • Easy to access from a major city (Faro, Lissabon) but no polluted waters
  • Preferrably the accommodation, the beach and a small village would be very close to each other. So that one could walk with kids to the beach and to the village/town.

Is Ericeira the place or are there better?

Oops just read every post. Looks like Cascais has been discussed.

Really looks like an excellent spot to check out. Still a little concerned about the process I'd have to go through to get a bank account. 90 day visa rule is a little annoying as well, but not such a big deal being that I'm more looking for a place to stay for the June-October window. Although if I fall in love the place I might want to stay much longer.

So has anyone here moved to Cascais?

Are home games legal in Portugal? and are there any poker clubs other than casinos?, also can you play for small money in bars pubs (small tournaments for example)

Any info would be gratefully received,

andy

i live pretty close to Cascais and it is indeed one of the best places in Portugal.

near to Lisbon and Sintra, it has beaches, nightlife, casino and it is a very popular turist location.

home games are not legal in Portugal but in your own house if you keep it quiet there should be no problems.

no poker clubs, and no poker playing in public places apart from casinos. legally speaking...
