It doesn't seem to appear now, but yesterday I was browsing pokerstars.pt and the opening message on the first page was something along the lines of "we are not accepting new Portuguese players at this time"

Important Information for Portuguese players
In response to recent measures taken by the Turismo de Portugal, PokerStars is not currently accepting new real money online players who are resident in Portugal. We have every intention of applying for a license from Turismo de Portugal, and look forward to being able to welcome you back to the tables.

Hello XXXXX

thank you for your email.
Unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer PokerStars Real Money games to players in Portugal. PokerStars is applying for an online gaming license in Portugal under the newly established regulatory regime. During this application process we will no longer offer real money games. The technical changes required to stop real money games will be in place from Monday, July 13.
We regret this inconvenience, and hope we will soon be able to offer you real money play. For now, we invite you to continue playing with your existing account on our play money site.
When we have fully closed access to our real money games we will provide further communication about VIP Status progress and other account assets such as FPPs and tournaments. At that time the player to player transfer feature will also be disabled.
Meanwhile, your account will remain open and accessible, and your funds may be withdrawn at any time.
Please let us know if you have further questions, we will be happy to assist.
Regards,
Davide

Visited Porto, Lisbon, and Sintra for the first time last week. Had a blast and enjoyed the super cheap food/beer. Kinda pissed at myself now that I didn't pursue living there several years ago. I think I even had a brief discussion with Sly about it, but I never went through with the plan.

Will certainly be back soon, flights are only 25-30 Euros each way from Lyon, and it's great that you can get from the airports to city centres for almost nothing.

Hello

There's a project in Europe of merging markets of France, Spain, Portugal and Italy

I'm searching information about poker in Portugal.

Is a poker player (standard situation, only activity is poker, winning ~30K/year) considered as a pro ?
Does he have to pay tax on it ?
Has he some special obligations ?

What about the health system in Portugal ? Is it ok ?
How cost is the rent (in minor towns, no Lisbonne, Porto etc...) for a 2pieces / 3pieces appartment ?

Thanks

hey there, in Portugfal from a legal point of view, there are no poker "pros", because poker is gambling and gambling money comes and goes.

Therefore players pay 0 from it and have no obligations regarding their gambling activities.

Health System is good/great but if you are not covered by it you should get a health insurance.

Prices for Rents can go from 500 to 2/3k easily, if possible should avoid major city centers.

Hi D33P I feel you have good information and i really apreciate if you can answer me some questions:

If is tax free where to put the winnings in your income tax at the end of year?

Appart from PS that is really close to get into the regulated Spain and France market, do you know any other site for playing online without breaking the law?

I love good weather, which city do you recomend me to live with good services and not so expensive flats as Lisbon?

Is it easy to open bank account?

Do you know any law advisor in Portugal can help me?

Ive heard about criptocurrency is tax free as well; do you have any info about?

Straight in a bank account.

Nope, you can technically play in others, but not legally.

Btw I am considering to relocate there and start some grind house/flat somewhere in Cascais area. Would anybody be interested in that? I play online midstakes MTTs and low-mid live cg...

Hi D33P, thanx for sharing a few things about portugal.
If you know a good lawyer I wouldnt mind getting the contacts, as it's always good to have one to contact.

Do you think algarve or something like cascais is best for living (quality of life, nightlife etc)?

I been looking at longterm rentals in algarve, seems very hard to find?

Thanx again
