Nah, it's actually Tibau do Norte, closer to Ceara. And no, I haven't.

Re: Ask me about Natal, North Eastern Brazil

Found out some interesting details regarding the big game today, one of the dealers at my club worked there during the event.

What they do is hire rooms and space at a hotel anywhere in Brazil and invite big spenders/whales/fish to play PLO. They also invite them to bring the whole family and everything is comped by the organizers (including travel expenses etc). This time, in Natal, they stayed at Piramide Convention Center. Why they chose Natal I don't know, because here there aren't many high rollers or whales. I know there are some private underground type clubs where they play close to nosebleeds, it's possible they have clients that play at these levels.

The biggest hand of the event was R$ 82.000. That gives the house a rake of 4.100. My dealer friend said they made close to 500K in rake, which barely covered expenses they had for the event. So they probably won't come back. The lowest game they had was 5/10 PLO, don't know how high it went.

Today it rained a lot in Natal. This is what it looked like:

Hope rains like this don't happen anymore, specially during the WC.

My favorite spot at the beach, Old Five in Ponta Negra. I highly doubt that the Ponta Negra beach is among the best, so I will post more beach photos later on.

Took this yesterday while dropping off a bird in a less than stellar area of town. Garbage pick-up Brazilian style.

Decent burger at Freddy's, downtown Natal. Still a way to go to BLT@Mirage tho, but it will do. A very good burger in Brazil is hard to come by btw.

From the rain the other day. It was completely bonkers, I've never in all my years here experienced anything like it. It just wouldn't stop.

Re: Ask me about Natal, North Eastern Brazil

so this poker club is just out in the open like this? I wouldn't feel comfortable at all playing there.
also, it must be different for foreigners because I love our burguers! have you tried Bebelu? I love their "Delicia 2".

They have two armed guys at all times there. Never been any incident in 6 or 7 years.

Realize it's about ~5 hours North, but any knowledge about Canoa Quebrada? Looking for a beach town to stay in for a couple of days that's within a few hours driving distance of Fortaleza.

I'd like to help with this answer.
I go to Canoa Quebrada at least once a year with my girlfriend. It's a great place to party/relax. You can have a buggy ride on beautiful beaches and paraglider rides!

this is the view you have when you get to the end of Broadway Avenue:

The best place you can stay is called Presidente Hotel. It has the best location possible, it's perfect for people going to Canoa for the first time. It's located right in front of Broadway, the most famous avenue in Canoa.
The city is full of foreigners, so you won't feel much like an outsider I think. It's also a place for people with alternative life styles, specially hippies.

Presidente Hotel:

There's a bar inside the pool!

TL;DR It's a beautiful place and if you are a first timer, just stay in Presidente Hotel and walk through Broadway. It has everything you want and in the end of it, there's a beach with lots of fun things to do.

Re: Ask me about Natal, North Eastern Brazil

Thanks for the feedback, looks like a much better option than paying $400/night in Fortaleza for an unrated place with no pictures

I missed this question.

No, have never tried Bebelu (and it's like 500 meters from my house). Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with your burgers (imo), when we talk about places like Pittsburg, Bob's etc. It's decent enough, plus they deliver at all hours of the day (Pitts). However, when it comes to the finer burgers, gourmet type burgers, it's pretty difficult to find a good one.

The only places I've found decent ones are at Freddy's and Gourmet Burger (by Cidade Jardim). Freddy's being the best one this far.
