Found out some interesting details regarding the big game today, one of the dealers at my club worked there during the event.

What they do is hire rooms and space at a hotel anywhere in Brazil and invite big spenders/whales/fish to play PLO. They also invite them to bring the whole family and everything is comped by the organizers (including travel expenses etc). This time, in Natal, they stayed at Piramide Convention Center. Why they chose Natal I don't know, because here there aren't many high rollers or whales. I know there are some private underground type clubs where they play close to nosebleeds, it's possible they have clients that play at these levels.

The biggest hand of the event was R$ 82.000. That gives the house a rake of 4.100. My dealer friend said they made close to 500K in rake, which barely covered expenses they had for the event. So they probably won't come back. The lowest game they had was 5/10 PLO, don't know how high it went.

My favorite spot at the beach, Old Five in Ponta Negra. I highly doubt that the Ponta Negra beach is among the best, so I will post more beach photos later on.

Decent burger at Freddy's, downtown Natal. Still a way to go to BLT@Mirage tho, but it will do. A very good burger in Brazil is hard to come by btw.

Realize it's about ~5 hours North, but any knowledge about Canoa Quebrada? Looking for a beach town to stay in for a couple of days that's within a few hours driving distance of Fortaleza.

I go to Canoa Quebrada at least once a year with my girlfriend. It's a great place to party/relax. You can have a buggy ride on beautiful beaches and paraglider rides!

The best place you can stay is called Presidente Hotel. It has the best location possible, it's perfect for people going to Canoa for the first time. It's located right in front of Broadway, the most famous avenue in Canoa.
The city is full of foreigners, so you won't feel much like an outsider I think. It's also a place for people with alternative life styles, specially hippies.

TL;DR It's a beautiful place and if you are a first timer, just stay in Presidente Hotel and walk through Broadway. It has everything you want and in the end of it, there's a beach with lots of fun things to do.

No, have never tried Bebelu (and it's like 500 meters from my house). Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with your burgers (imo), when we talk about places like Pittsburg, Bob's etc. It's decent enough, plus they deliver at all hours of the day (Pitts). However, when it comes to the finer burgers, gourmet type burgers, it's pretty difficult to find a good one.

The only places I've found decent ones are at Freddy's and Gourmet Burger (by Cidade Jardim). Freddy's being the best one this far.

I think you pay $70 a day at Presidente.

Maybe less, it's R$ 160
