Awesome info felgastell!

I spend 6 months a year in Florianopolis,Brazil but am interested in spending a couple months in 1 of the smaller beach town you mentioned(assuming internet is good). I'm going to look into punta rubia, and la pedrera. Any tips on how to find houses/apartments to rent?

For me the internet is very important too. Thinking about renting a house/aptmnt in a smaller beachtown but it's very hard to determine if they have good affordable internet.

great thread man- no question there is internet- just a case of how reliable it is- even a 100mb internet is pretty useless if there are power cuts :P Punta del este seems really nice imo

there is not such thing as shared aparment here, or house,

a rent will cost you like 300-400usd in the capital ( per month )

the best would be make a pokerhouse....

there are some places where you can live very cheap called " pension " here but its a dirty place and not good i think. you can live in pension for 150usd per month something like that awful place...

Great thread Felgastell, you opened my eyes too!
I PMed a few of you guys about setting up a poker house there with me and another swede. We're 27 and 23 years old, outgoing and enjoying life. We're looking to live somewhat affordable/micro balling and work on our game a lot while we enjoy a new culture (food, activities, girls, w/e you associate it with ;D). Don't hesitate to PM me if you're interested!

I'm uruguayan too, if we're talking about Punta del este during the summer, the girls are just amazing, they are in party mode all the time and most of them are from Argentina and Brazil, and of course some from uruguay... A place with better girls would be kinda hard to find (probably Spring break in usa or smth like that)...

If felgastell doesnt mind I can help in this thread too, Uruguay is a small country with not many grinders, and a lot of people are not aware of how amazing this place is!

Your location says Montevideo. Why did you choose there as opposed to Punta Del Este? Are they pretty similar?

I was born here, and Montevideo is Uruguay's capital. Punta del este is a great place to be during the summer, but (at least for my taste) it can be a little quiet during the rest of the year. So, even now that Im entirely dedicated to poker, I choose to stay in Montevideo for the majority of the time I spend in Uruguay, which is around 4-5 months a year in Mvdeo and 2 months in Punta.

No, they are not similar. Punta del Este is a city that comes to life during summer, it is made to fit people from all over the world, making it a touristic destination. While Montevideo has around 1/2 of Uruguay's entire population, being the most urban and industrial city in the country.

So, If you are looking to party during summer and grind some live poker, Punta del Este is a no brainer.

Hi guys. I'm 22 and currently live in Poland. I'd be interested in joining you in Uruguay since February. Will you have room in your poker house?

Would anyone be willing to get a relatively short term (2-4 month) place by the beach in punta del este?

I'd def be looking to get somewhere really nice, whatever that costs (it's uruguay so it can't be that expensive right?) and have a maid/cook and that sort of thing fwiw.

Dont be deceived by Uruguay's third world aspect, Punta del Este is not like that at all. Punta del Este is a tourist destination and by far the most expensive place in the country!

How safe is Uruguay? Do they have the typical street markets and shopping? Any pictures of area itt would be cool. Looking at possible coming to area but always like to visit less touristy spots also.

Well, if you are talking about Punta del Este, it is 100% absolutely safe, since they dont even let poor people wonder the streets lol. And if you are looking for a non-tourist city, Punta del Este is not for you... Montevideo would be better, is not as safe as Punta del Este since it is Uruguay's capital, it is as safe as any other capital.

a few pics

Hi,

thanks a lot for making this!

How is Uruguay's economy? If it's stable why would you say it will be for some time. is it a good country to buy real estate in? If so would you recommend buying in Punta or Montevideo assuming it is for investement purposes only.

Uruguay's economy has been uprising since 2002, which was one of the worst years in economical history.
Right now I wouldnt recommend buying at all, since prices are at high records... It would be like buying a place in Spain 6 years ago, I believe that if you wait until the perfect time you can score some sick places really cheap. I mean, this construction boom cant long forever, and at some point prices are bound to go down, I just hope I'm already Supernova elite by then
If you wanna buy real estate with investment purposes only, take a look at Europe, during an economical crisis you often find the best time to buy.
