hi, you can live here with 1k a mounth i think. if you are with someone you can live even with less money. but also depends of what kind life you want have ofc.

the cost of avg meal its like 5 usd in a restaurant, and quiet less if you cook by yourself.

for foreingers its too easy get girls here imo. most of population here look like italians or spanish ppl when there is someone different they are like crazy to meet him. ( if you are italian or spanish your look will not call the atention, but if they hear your accent, they will want to meet you anyway )

id say that 30% of ppl can speak english here...

but i dont recomend it for summer, if you come in summer go to the east of the country there are better beaches, and most of the ppl is in punta del este

I read about Uruguay's proposal to legalize weed several months ago, but never heard anything more about it. Can you tell us anything about that scene?

Also, is the economy there relatively stable? Or does it more closely resemble BA/Argentina?

the weed here its legal, and very cheap id say a lot of ppl have their own plants.

you can get 25gr of good weed for 15-20 usd. but of course the best weed its the weed that you plant for your own.

and i think that when was ilegal, was legal anyway, because there was law that said " you can take it but not sell it. "

about the economy here its by far better than argentina id say. but everything its more expensive too, but the salaries better too. but we have exeptions too, because electronics things are quiet cheaper here than in argentina, for example you can get a monitor of 24" for 200usd new ultra slim. about the food the price its the same.
and the best thing about uruguay its that you can get the money of online poker so easy and with 0 takes id say. uruguay its a fiscal paradise ( tax haven ) dunno how to say it in english but its like san marino, or caiman islands etc.

I been to Uruguay many times for my visa runs. It is a very nice country and the people are really cool. I really liked La Barra which is a little surf town 10 km outside Punta del Este. I had many dreams about moving to Punta Del Este renting a furnished apartment and having a peaceful life concentrating on poker. The beaches and climate are perfect for me and the woman are hot. One thing that always really disappoints me is that the internet in Uruguay is expensive and it really sucks compared to Argentina. I might also mention that it is very hard to find furnished apartment through agencies and websites. If Uruguay ever gets reasonable internet I would move there in a heart beat.

hi smokehow, i used to spend some summers, in punta del esta and la barra too when i was a child, and yeah thats true about internet long time ago, i dunno when you came, but now the internet has improved a lot id say that internet here its cheaper than in argentina.
for example my internet without limits cost me 30usd per month. i dont think that this is expensive.
and there is not need get a visa to stay here, you can come and stay all the time that you want without problems, uruguay needs ppl because we are only 3M

How easy is it to get by with a limited level of Spanish?

How is the nightlife compared to other big South American cities, particularly on weekdays?

And do you know of any web sites for letting agents that would give a rough idea of accomodation prices/availability?

What are visa requirements for an American?

Easy to do a border run to Argentina or Brazil? What are the costs associated with that?

I have a healthy bankroll, but might look for some casual part time job to meet people. Is it possible for foreigners to work there?

Also, I have a bachelor's degree. Any employment prospects for skilled foreign workers looking for long term employment?

hi ogs20..

about spanish, you can find many ppl who speaks english here mainly the young ppl....

i know the nightlife of buenos aires and a little bit of brasil. the nightlife in punta del este its the best of id say , the nightlife in montevideo its just like buenos aires, even the same music, in punta del este in summer there is not difference between saturday or tuesday for example... parties everywhere everynight. in montevideo id say that only in weekend its the best to go out, but you have someplaces to do it everyday too...

i dunno any website about get places to stay, only phisicals agencies, but if you come i can help you to get a place, or a car etc.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi zleej

about visa in uruguay no body needs visa to stay here, everyone can come and stay all the time that want.

its very easy to go to argentina or brasil because ( argentina - brasil - uruguay ) created the community of mercosur, its like UE. if you want to go to argentina the cost by ship its 50usd go and back, about brasil i have no idea. but more expensive.
if you know spanish you can get a job easly id say... but i dont think that would be necesary get a job to meet ppl.
if you come you can count with me to help you to get things that you needs

visa for UK people is 90 days. I'd have to leave every 90 days, but could I just go to nearest boarder for a day trip and then turn straight back and get another 90days unlimited?

Thanks

"Possession for personal use not penalized; law does not specify quantity for "personal amount.

My interpretation of that is it's not legal but it's not illegal either.
