That should do it. I have some pretty bad pictures, thought I had some decent ones on here but the lighting came out really dark. Should give some clue though for pics of Guayaquil, just search the web. The areas that players would most likely live in would be Sol, Urdesa, Samborondon, and Kennedy Nueva....

Cool about that card WHD. I will look into it. Play on ongame because mostly play cash but it is pretty crappy now with all spaniards gone etc and small player pool so might migrate. When you arriving down here?

Is it nice that they use the US dollar? I never knew the history behind that. Must be great for banking purposes and playing online.

financial crisis, ecuadorean and U.S gov made a deal to help restructure the currency. The sucre was removed and was replaced by the U.S dollar. Its definitely got its benefits.

Ha, nice is that where your family lives? when was the last time you were down here? Yea mainly, although I have a very small income from the states, and coach a fair bit micro cash as well so... I strictly grinded in the beginning but have gotten a little lazy with it. One or two other players probably coming down early september from what I can tell too.

Hey what's up, thanks for making this kerwinty.

I started a big poker expat group in rosarito, mexico that's grown to about 100 people now...but am looking to move on. I think I'm starting in Colombia for a few months and then naturally heading to Ecuador, and guayaquil has been reccomended many times to me.

Awesome to hear bank accounts are easy to set-up. That factor alone scratched argentina off my list (until I set-up a good, reliable international or S. American based bank account.)

Would you mind exchanging skype's sometime so I could ask you a few questions? I'll try to have some things prepared so you're not wasting your time rambling to kid curious about Ecuador (I've done that with 200+ people that were moving to my city in mexico...ughhhhhH!!!!)

skype: gnarlybro

Subbed to the thread.

Awesome about the US dollar...at least can't be a bad thing financially for a gringo looking to move down there.

I heard guayaquil was more of a dirty hippy town, looks like it may have that scene as much as any other city adorned by expats but looks really nice, modern, clean. Surprised with the quality of girls as well (a bit spoiled as I've only been to Colombia a few times, wowwwwwwww!!), and very hyped on that!

any general comments on:

S. American as a whole bank account? (I plan on spending 4-5 years cruising around down there, have a Santander account now and not if that's the best choice...would love an HSBC or similar intl. bank account that is cheap and convenient)

skateboarding scene? (I'm sure there's plenty of surfing around as well, right?)

GENERAL prices? How much is a normal night out - some food, 15 beers, club entrance, taxi's. Decent 2 bedroom place in a nicer neighborhood. I don't spend thousands at strip clubs or need to rent jet-skis everyday, but I'm not trying to scrape by and like myself and my company to enjoy life. From the looks of it I'm a step or 2 below you in the baller category....but the country could just be cheap as **** so partying at clubs every weekend is nominal.

Some of the bigger CON's of living there compared to other S. American countries? (Obv infrastructure will be lacking a bit, but availability of healthy food, public transport, friendliness of locals, ease of girls, internet speeds, visa-stays, etc....) Food is actually a big one. I'd rather not eat steak and red-meat all day like it sounds like in argentina. Upper-class neighborhoods in colombia have plenty of healthy food options, and there's always chicken everywhere you go. Mexico has plenty of farms so produce is available...although seasonal and not the best quality.

Anyways I'll be in Mexico until at least end of WCOOP, feel free to respond anytime. I know I got tired on answering questions after the first hundred pages or so of the thread...I guess this one is alot fresher though

and there's my tl:dr introduction to the thread. But I actually will show up down there and grab ya some beers!! (unless I fall in love in colombia first. very non-zero chance of that happening)

Oh saw you mentioned brentwood on 1st page....I'm from LA area as well!

gracia por todo amigo!

disregard budgeting questions....just saw that in post #12.

Do all the girls have kids? It's seriously the most annoying thing in the world here in mexico and I have no idea how to deal with it besides just switching girls often and not getting attached.

Skype is lkpearson12. Haha, its crazy the latin culture with having babies. Ecuador isn't nearly as bad as Mexico but it is still pretty common. But there are plenty that don't obv! In terms of surfing and skating, I am surprised that there does seem to be a skating scene, there is a public skate park I pass every day. Surfing is amazing down here for the most part but keep in mind Guayaquil is the city, the beach towns are 45 min to 2 hrs from here depending where you go. Playas has good breaks and is 45 min or so. Montanita is further but much more of an international hippiesh place with 2 big surf events each year and great spots. I'll def be able to answer more of your questions on skype.

Why does the fact that your American make a difference? its like me starting a thread about living in Australia as a Irishman.

Because I was trying, in part, to address people from the states like me that don't know Ecuador is a viable option to move to play- since there are many people in this situation. That was one of the points of the thread. I could have said gringo or foreigner as well but Ecuador isn't like Costa Rica where hundreds of US grinders have moved.

awesome thread. What made you decide to go to Ecuador? And how did you go about finding a place? Did you make plans in advance or just go down there and hotel it while having realtors show you places?

So you feel that your information would be of no use to me or a spanish person, dutch, germany, italian or anyone else from a lesser country than 'the land of the free'?

dude it's just a random title. he should have put "gringo" I guess, but I wouldn't look into it too much as some kind of elitism or racism of any kind.

And yes it could be a bit different for americans compared to those from the EU or other parts of the world as far as visa requirements, banking, how locals view us (americans seem to always think there is alot of anti-american feelings around the world...when in truth most people really don't care or think about us much), some chicks go crazy for gringos, and sometimes people hate americans but are fine with canadians/EU (in central america I repped canada the whole time just to avoid any possible 'ohhhhh ur from USA' convos.)

all in all he's just trying to spread some information that can be useful to anyone, thank you OP.
