Anyone in Tbilisi, Georgia?

Hello! This might be a long shot as this part of the forum seemed a little dead, but anyone here in Tbilisi? Just arrived a few days ago and don't really know anyone here. Feel free to ask any questions about here, maybe I can help with the little experience I have

Re: Anyone in Tbilisi, Georgia?

I'm planning to move there for a year, but not until March. If you're still there, we could meet up.

Should be easy to find stuff to do using the Facebook group Tbilisi Digital Nomads.

How do you like the city so far?

Re: Anyone in Tbilisi, Georgia?

Cool, I will probably still be here Yes, I have looked at some of the Facebook groups, alot of nomads here and seems easy to meet up with people.

Im really enjoying the city so far, people are more friendly and helpful than expected and the english among young people seems really good, even some of the older generation have decent english. A lot of stuff to do and see here, food is great, wine is superb! Some downside is people seem more conservative here and have some old ways of thinking, meeting girls is a bit more work than in other parts of the world. Overall a very good experience so far!

Hey! How long are you guys planning to stay?

Did you look up how the taxes are for grinding online? I'm trying to look into Georgia as a potential medium term destination but I haven't found much about this.

I will probably stay here 1 year, maybe longer if possible.

Not so updated on the tax situation, seems like you need to pay if you stay longer than 6 months and the tax might be like 1%?? not sure how it will work for poker.

When and where are you planning to go?

I'm just sorting things out back home, I'll probably leave in like a month or so.

I'll be going to Tbilisi.

Can you elaborate on how meeting girls is a bit more work? hahah
How's tinder and stuff? Or do you usually hunt in person? Language barrier when it comes to talking to like a coffee shop employee or something, do people over 30 speak English?

Re: Anyone in Tbilisi, Georgia?

Girls are just a bit flaky, after agreeing to meet up they might tell me they have a hard time and need to wait or whatever. As long you have a decent tinder profile its no problem to find good looking girls to meet up with, just need to be grinding tinder a bit. ONS seems to be out of the question in most cases.

I didnt hunt at clubs or anything like this, curfew just ended so this might be possibility now. There is also a ton of expats here to meet.

English among the locals here is really good, most ppl under 30 speak atleast decent english. Over 30, not that much, but some know it.

Also, be aware of girls from Tinder who tries to invite you to a resturant or something on first meeting! Its probably a scam.

Re: Anyone in Tbilisi, Georgia?

Thanks for the updates, keep em coming. Always interested to read more since I'll be there in March and staying for awhile.

Yah, I read that the scam where a girl takes you to a bar for a couple drinks then you get charged like $500 and a big bouncer guy intimidates you into paying is somewhat common there. So use caution if a girl seems insistent on a certain place.

Have you been to Latin America? If so, how does flakiness compare?

Re: Anyone in Tbilisi, Georgia?

Glad to hear you had interest! I will try to take some pictures and do a bigger update later on.

Yes, I would guess the scam goes pretty much like this. I have had 3 girls who tried this on my now! Reading google reviews on some of those places, it seems to be working fairly well and many guys fall for it.. The places is probably run by some mafia and police doesnt care.

Never been to Latin America, I just heard the girls can be very difficult and flaky when it comes to meeting, especially the ones from Colombia. Earlier I have been some places in Europe and in South East Asia and girls there was way better at keeping their words.

March will be good when it comes to finding apartment etc, flats now seem to go very fast and talking to an agent I didnt pick the best time to look for it, but still plenty of good and cheap options.

Also opening a bank account seems to be very easy, just go there and in 3 days it will be ready I hear. I didnt try yet.

Re: Anyone in Tbilisi, Georgia?

I havenít been to Tbilisi specifically but Iíll speak generally from what of Georgia Iíve seen. Expect really, really wonderful hospitality, often whether or not youíve asked! However, at least in Kutaisi and surrounds, English was very rarely spoken, so I certainly see an issue with that. I would love to digital nomad there too, so if you go please make an update! Iím friends with the only English speaking policeman in Kutaisi too, so I can say itís worth your while making your friends in high places there!

Re: Anyone in Tbilisi, Georgia?

I've actually been studying Georgian for about 10 minutes a day for the last month.

Alphabet is completely different so it takes a while just to learn that. Other than that I've learned about 40-50 words of vocabulary. I probably won't get too far unless I decide to take classes when I live there, but I suppose it's helpful to at least be able to read signs and speak the basics.
