Yep

If you are looking for 2 5 then you will have to play at COD, solaire or Midas.

ermita isn't far from these but depending on when you play you could be stuck in traffic a long time.

What are the prevailing thoughts now with Duterte winning the election? How might he effect expats moving into the Philippines?

I didn't follow it too much, but during his "campaign" he did say he wants to allow more than 40% foreign ownership in companies. So in theory that is pro-expat. Other than that I only know he let a tourist eat a cigarette once and that his opinion is "good foreigner is good, bad foreigner can **** off".

If anyone knows more or has sources of him say things directly related to foreigners, that would be interesting.

Of course I understand you also just mean expats not moving here because there is a president who thinks some journalists who were killed deserved it (just quoting the latest ridiculous statement of him ) But not sure how to properly evaluate if it's enough reason for expats to not move here.

If you're an expat on a salary, obviously no one is going to care. Even ultra xenophobic Thailand facilitates that. It's the expats who have no pension fund chilling in Angeles types that could be affected.
I barely know anything about the guy but it sounds like he's some kind of upstanding, moral guy or something.
Could make it "not more fun in the Philippines" for a little while.

Well i really liked Davao, where he was a mayor for long time... Was safe and pretty clean(though he can be bit strick as bar closed at 1am and no fireworks). So i hope he will make it less corrupt and more safe... Though night life might suffer a bit.

That wants to kill everyone he deems a bad apple. Of course I guess some people do consider that the upstanding, moral thing to do.

I wasn't using "upstanding and moral" as a positive thing.
Reminds me of the Christian right in the states.

Ah...ok, fair enough.

Yeah, I'm not sure about him yet, I guess no one is. He seems kind of a mixed bag, he's suggesting a lot of extreme and radical things, some of which seem good and some of which seem not so good.

Seems like he's pretty much saying 'if you're a good citizen, good things will happen for you under my administration, but if you're a bad citizen, look at because I'm coming after you.'

I suppose that's fair, the only problem is he get's to decide for himself potentially who is good and who is bad.

Hummm... well one things for sure, he's not going to be a soft spoken, non acting type, pretty clear he intends to be very active and shake things up...

But to what end?

That's what remains to be seen.

Although I'm not sure how much it will affect us foreigners.

Yeah, pretty interested to watch this political landscape develop itself within the next 6 years, and what peculiar dynamic transpires from it The dude does sound legit, is probably the best candidate to clean up the corrupt state of affairs (although I preferred Myriam as a candidate), but still dips into some pseudo-fascist philosophies. And yeah, him telling the church to *** off is a thing of beauty

Was thinking of moving out to Manila for 6mths/1yr. Want to play a mix of live & online poker.

Plan was to get into the country on the visa waiver exemption then apply for extensions & ACRI card when I am there. Was going to get a condo near to the main casinos probably at Solemare Parksuites or Sea Residencies, looks like I might need to get that on a minimum 6mth lease?

A couple of concerns, will I have any problems getting into the country without an ongoing flight? Will I have any problems renting an apartment without having a Visa & before getting my ACRI card? I looked on the Solemare website and they seem to request 2 forms of government documentation.

Would I be better off applying for a 12mth Visa from the UK before travel?

Any help much appreciated.

The only time I've been asked about ongoing flights was getting onto the flight to philippines. Jspill posted a site that does something along the lines of giving you an ongoing flight thay you can cancel very cheaply. Search for it.

Would not want to move here for live personally. Rake is too high and the games are rarely good enough. Visas are easy.

I used to recommend solemare but recently it's sucked. Ac keeps baling, elevators out of service and Internet constantly going out. Had no problems for month then all of a sudden a lot in a short period. Also the location sucks. It's too far to walk to moa or the casinos unless you want to arrive sweating. Sea is right across from moa. I imagine Internet is better there too.

Also last night outside of solemare this haopened:

Did not feel safe.

flyonward.com, $10 onward ticket

weird Phils is basically the only country to be so anal about needing one 100%

and making people apply and pay for 'exit clearance' to be able to leave

thai > phils

im sure if you greased some palms with $12,000 you could find your way out of the exit clearance for the next 5 years

I had to fly one way to the PI in March and used flyonward as my return ticket. I flew Thai airways and during check in at swampy the girl asked about my onward ticket, then she saw that I had booked a return ticket on Thai airways in her computer (flyonward at work). She asked why have I booked the ticket but not purchased it yet? I gave he some BS about a travel agent not putting the money through or something. She seemed suspicious but was too lazy to be bothered about it and let me go.
I'd say this is just run bad. Onward probably uses Thai airways because cancelling is easy. If I would have been on Air Asia/Cebu Pacific I highly doubt they could/would have checked in the computer about my return. I would probably just show them my print out and be on my way no questions asked.
Immigration in the PI didn't ask for any proof of onward travel.

It's supposed to actually be a legit purchased ticket not just a booked / reserved one. That's what they're advertising on their site.

Quote:
The ticket will come with a “Confirmed” status which means has been paid in full.
I'd be pretty pissed off. I haven't used them yet but in that case I won't then.

Orbitz are supposed to do free 24 hour cancellation that'd be a better option if true.

I think it was just bad luck I was flying on the same airline that they booked. I'm pretty sure they didn't purchase the ticket because I got some flack when checking in and I was well within my 24hr window.

sea residence is a great place to live. very safe. location gets you to moa and all the casinos walking if you are into exercise or cheap taxi. minimum 3 month lease. reasonably priced for smaller rooms or ball out not too much higher as well. internet is garbage. need exit flight just buy it cheap. visa is easy and cheap. phils girls best looking and most friendly of all countries in the travel thread. duterte coming soon so welcome to the revolution. go live in places where they constantly point machine guns at you and all these shotguns will make you laugh. as an added bonus you can now also kill a druglord and win 100k and a medal and thus freeroll the whole year in luxury.
