Actually there are quite a few bars run by Norwegians down there, GoGo type you have in Angeles/EDSA, as well as at least one resort. I was there during Sinulog, which is a huge carnival and actually pretty cool to see. I enjoy meeting Norwegians every now and then when I travel, and it's nice with Norwegian food too after being away from Norway a few years.

50+ on welfare is not my crowd either, but you got people on vacation, off-shore people, people working on ships, etc. I like that Cebu is close to the beach, even though Manila is a more fun city to stay in overall.

Yo Norwegians. I need to get a visa.
What's the best way to do this?
I've read I should apply at least 1 month before departure, but that I need confirmed travel documents. Should I book my flight first, then? Views on cheap airlines/tickets? I found a 1-way ticket for 4K NOK which seems ok.
And is the best way to do this by mailing passport etc to the Philippine Embassy, or is it OK to do at "last minute", day before departure etc to meet up in person (I don't live in Oslo).
I've also read in asiaforum that some don't bother with the visa and just pay the fine when they leave the country. Doesn't seem too good of an idea, I'd rather get a 1 year visa and stay legally

you get 21 days automatically when you arrive in the Philippines, then you have to renew it every 59 days at an immigration office here. You cannot get 1 year. First time you go you to the office you only get 38 days(59-21), and 59 days every time you go thereafter. So you do not need to send your passport to the embassy in Oslo. I believe that would be more expensive and more hassle for you.

You also need a outgoing ticket within 21 days of your arrival (just buy a cheap ticket to Macau, Hong Kong or something), of course you do not need to use it

Argh. I left the Philippines on Wednesday. Half of me is insanely glad I'm out of there and half of me really wants to go back.

I usually go via Bangkok, 1 way to Bangkok then buy a 2 way from Bangkok to Manila with Cebu Pacific, this 2 way you could get for like 1k NOK or less. Don't get stuck in Thailand and marry a Thai girl though, better not leave the airport hehe. Philippines is better in my opinion, but Thailand is a pretty awesome country too and easy to get stuck in.

1 way to Manila for 4k is real cheap though, so might be cheaper doing this and buying a one way from Manila to somewhere like OmahaKid suggested. Which airlines is this btw? The Bangkok route should be 4.5k-5k total depending on how cheap you can get 1 way to Bangkok, I've gotten those as low as 3.5k. So it depends what you can get a Manila - Somewhere ticket for.

Renewing the VISA every 2 months is totally legal and only cost like 500 NOK or something. You can do this at travel agencies here and don't have to both going to the immigration. What do you have to pay for a 1 year? I've never met anyone using this option.

I believe you get 1 year if you arrive with your filipina wife. Tourist visa is just 2 months.

Going to immigration is not a great hassle anyway.Just fill out a paper and wait awhile every two months.. If you go to the wrong travel agency you might end up with fake extension, but I do not think this is a huge problem.

Take a look at this http://www.philembassy.no/visa

C. Below are different types of Tourist Visa and their respective fees:

1. Single ENTRY valid for three (3) months (NOK 237);
2. Multiple ENTRY valid for six (6) months (NOK 474); and
3. Multiple ENTRY valid for one (1) year (NOK 711)

That seems pretty reasonable to me and it's the reason why I asked about the 1 year visa.
As for the Airline, I did a search on ebookers.no and it gave various results, a couple that were around 4K and others much more. Etihad airways apparently had very nice prices.

Yeah, that's the standard tourist visa. And you're right you can get a fake one, I got that in Cebu, had to pay like $100 to fix it. Swagman in Manila has done it the last few times for me though, cheap and without any problems.

Seems quite cheap, it also says this on the website though:

D. The above-mentioned visas are for ENTRY purposes only. Period of stay (which will not exceed 59 days) will be determined by the immigration officer at the point of entry in the Philippines.

So it seems you get a 2 month tourist visa on entry which you have to extend even though you have a multiple entry for a year, or? I've no idea, visa is generally easy, overstay for months and still the fine is only a few 1000 peso.

Seems I somehow missed that point D yes and that the 1year tourist visa is for multiple entries through a year, but staying still can't exceed 59 days.
Looks like chatting it up at immigration offices or paying some fines is the way to go

If you are staying more than 6-12 months I think you should consider just getting a permanent visa. usually cost between 100-150k.
easily worth it never having to go to the immigration again.

Seems like a bad deal to me when visa extensions only cost 3-4k, for a 2 month extension that is, and you never have to go to the immigration anyways, as long as you use a travel agency you can trust. I believe you can do this for 18 months before you have to leave the country for 24 hours before you come back and do another 18 months the same way.

I would say it's one of the benefits of the philippines is they are pretty lax on tourist visa's for americans (Im not sure how other countries are but I cant imagine its much harder) From what I know you can stay up to 16months consecutively and just pay 3-4k every 2 months to extend, if you find a good travel agency they will charge like 500 php + 500 php for the express line to do this for you. Even after 16 months you can just catch a flight to hong kong or somewhere near and after 24 hours you can re enter.

I gotta travel more around though, I stay in cebu and have visited manila for business a few times outside of that I have not seen much of the other islands. I def wanna check out bohol, palawan, and boracay. Any you guys got some trip reports of your experiences in different parts of the philippines it would be cool to share it here.

I got a quota visa done in January and it set me back 200k. Big expense but something I needed to do.

Some friends of mine have just been down to Palawan and they said that El Nido has one of the most amazing beaches/crystal clear sea they have seen. I had a look at their photos and it looks as good as they say. Trip reports from others about various places in the Philippines would be greatly appreciated.

palawan, cebu, and bora all within the last year or so. and i'm going to bohol flights 6hours from now. i of course am too lazy to write a trip report, but if u want to see pics i can pm you my facebook. boracay is more party scene to go with a group, and i did dos palmas in palawan which is quite/peaceful/romantic if you have a girl to go with.

to those paying 150k or 200k for immigration purposes. i got a bb stamp after some begging. it's good for 1 year. i'm pretty sure i could have just slipped like 500php and been good to go, but i said please so i got the freebie.

Im been to Panglao in Bohol and it is nice and quiet there. The place shut down around 23 pm, so bring your own girl, because there is no girls there. When you walk in the water, it is first sandy and then full of rocks etc, so nice for snorkeling.

Hello,

What do u use to deposit/withdraw money from poker sites ?

I usually use moneybooker in Europe but today, I was trying to make a deposit with moneybookers and it said

"You are attempting to make a transaction to a gambling / casino / poker / bingo website from an Internet Protocol (IP) Address which marks your location as being in a country restricted for online gaming. Due to legislation prohibiting online gaming in restricted countries, we cannot allow you to make this transaction. If you are not currently located in a restricted country we can only suggest that you use an alternative Internet Service Provider. Our Customer Service Department cannot further assist you with this matter. "

WTF.. Also Neteller is forbidden in ph...

Nobody use moneybooker in ph ? What do u use for deposit/withdraw?

I have transferred from moneybookers to my BDO bank account in the Philppines. Maybe I just proxy to access moneybookers, that is one way to do it.

You can also withdraw from pokerstars to your Filipino account, if you have the Philippines as country in your pokerstars account.

Or you can get checks from full tilt poker.

If you do not have an account in the Philippines, then you just have to withdraw via bank transfer to your home country and use your visa card here, I guess.
