Played poker at the new Resort World casino. It was my first real live poker experience for the year. Just thought I would let you guys know whats up.

Resort World is a "Vegas- Style" casino. Much nicer than majority of the casino Filipinos. Gaming tables and chips are all modern and they have a membership card system for comps and stuff. It ain't the wynn or anything but its the best one here.

They have 4 poker tables all 50-100 blinds. 4k min 30k max. I showed up around 10:30 pm 3tables were going 4players on a list so I had to wait at little. They did not want to open the 4th table at 6players, maybe the people ahead of us were friends. Got a seat after 30-40mins. Bought in for 15k. Many foreigners at the table and a couple of faces from metro. There were more deep stacks 20k plus and only 2 or 3 short stacks. When you buy-in give the chip runner your membership card because for every 5k you buy in you get a raffle ticket for a seat in the US$1M tourney in March.

The first table I was at was loose (lots of limping and over bets) and wild thanks to some korean or taiwanese gamblers. One pot stood out. it was limped to somewhere in middle position and made 400, the button raised it 1900 total, Sb flat calls along with original raiser, all the limpers folded.

Flop came A45 rainbow. Sb overbets pot and the button shoves and get snapped called 40k plus pot. Button shows set of aces and the sb 23 off suit! wheel holds.

I saw another pot in which a 4k pot was check raised to 15k all in by top pair. It was called by middle 2pair. Top pair made better on the turn.

I was a doing ok and up around 12k till I had QQ cracked by a short stacks 87 suited. My friend who I was catching a ride with went broke on another table at around 1:30 so I left up around 5k.

+++I would like to add be careful with Banco De Oro Atms. One guy at my table withdrew 5k and one of the bills he got was fake! The casino did not offer to change it and said he had to go to the bank.

+++ Also you are not allowed to tip the dealer. rake is still 10percent 400max.

I just moved to Quezon City and would like to play some live poker.. Is it possible to play like 200/400 in Manila on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays?

Any clubs where smoking is banned? The Koreans smoke way to much..

Where is Resort World located?

Anyone there have any ballpark idea how much it'd cost to ship from the U.S. to metro Manila:
a) desktop PC (standard size)?
b) 30-inch Dell monitor?

Trying to figure out whether shipping'll be so ridiculously expensive that I'm better off just selling these two pieces here in U.S. before I leave and buying new when I get there.

You can calculate by weight and size on the dhl/fedex websites. My guess given what I've seen here is it is likely worth it to ship the monitor (very hard to find a nice 30'') but possibly not the computer.

Thanks alex. Looks like it'll cost around $350 to ship the monitor. Does that sound about right to anybody that's shipped a box overseas before?

Metro is the place for you. Non-smoking and high stakes but i hear the 100-200-500 game is not running as regularly

resort world is by the new airport.

The problem with DHL is you will have to pay enormous customs fees. Like close to 100% of the item value.

If you drive to LA, you can ship the monitor via cargo boat and it would cost something like $150-200 (just a guess).

One other option is just to check it in on the plane and pay whatever the excess baggage fees are.

Shipping the monitor is definitely not worth it. Tried it three times now to different locations(Argentina/Thailand/Japan) and twice the monitor was damaged.

'An Education' was super lame. Don't waste your time on that one. Saarsgard seemed really odd with a British accent.

The estimate from the US Post Office is $170 to ship the monitor. Will that include customs/duties, or will that be a ton extra?

It's $100 per extra checked bag on my flight....I'm assuming that can be a box with styrofoam?

Will be in Manila for 1 night on March 31 and then Boracay for 4 nights through April 5 any 2+2 wanna meet up for a drink

Also, do the games in Manila run 24 hours?? I get in from Macau at Midnight and was thinking about not even getting a room that night. I leave for Boracay 6 hours later. If the games run all night I would much rather play for 6 hours.

Thanks

Metro is open 24hours as far as I know. Not sure what kind of games will be running in the AM though.

If you want to play poker in boracay there is 50-100 game in the back of a bar called summerplace. Really bad players. Was there 4weeks ago and they said it ran everyday at 9pm. Seemed like a fair game but I only played 2hours.

Okay, I came up with a list of the places I enjoy eating at, although I'm sure I forgot a few.

In Rockwell:
Elbert's Cheesesteaks (my favorite)
Pepper Lunch
Kuretake (Japanese)
Sango (burgers)
Kulinarya
Mediterranean Cafe
Banana Leaf (Malay/Thai)
Press Cafe
Healthy Shabu Shabu
Figaro
Kaya (Korean BBQ)
Pho 24
Lulu Belle (frozen yogurt)
The Ice Cream Bar
Grilla

Elsewhere in Metro Manila:
Eat Well (Chinese, Fort)
BBQ Chicken (Makati, Korean style chicken)
Sushi Kappo Kobichi-ko
Urameshiya (Japanese)
Kagura (Japanese)
Omakase (Libis, Japanese)
Elbert's Steak Room
Melo's (steak)
Mamou's (steak, my favorite)
Conti's Pastry Shop
Brother's Burgers
Som's (Thai)

Those are probably the places I enjoyed most. mnlgrind and alex23 can probably suggest a bunch more delicious places since they go out more often than I do.

Some more lists:

Late night options:
Whistle Stop (24 hours)
Swiss Inn (24 hours)
Seattle's Best Coffee (24 hours on Valero St)
Inwangsan Hotel Restaurant (Korean, 24 hours)
Ziggurat (24 hours, Persian/Middle Eastern)
Filling Station (24 hours)
Shinjuku Ramen (open late)
North Park (open late)
Next Door Dim Sum (open late)
Tiananmen Bar (open late)
Pancake House (open late)

Delivery options:
Whistle Stop
Mexicali
McDonalds
Jollibee
Andok's
Yoohoo
Yellow Cab
Pizza Hut
Domino's
Shakey's
Wendy's
Chowking

Places I've been dying to try:
Antonio's (Tagaytay)
Le Souffle (French, Rockwell)
Aubergine (French, Fort)
Red (Shangrila Makati)
Ye Dang (Korean, Malate)
Johnny Rockets (Eastwood)
Fish & Co (Greenbelt)
Suzhou (Chinese, Manila)
Dong Bei (Chinese, Binondo)
Golden Pavillion (Chinese, Pasay)
Shang Palace (Chinese, Shangrila Makati)
La Cabane (French Bistro, Makati)

Also, for anyone already here in Metro Manila, some of us are going to Spiral (high-end buffet in Sofitel, P2000 per person) this week. PM me for details if you'd like to join.

Mexicali is not really authentic mexican food. Try Baja Cantina in Greenbelt if you want something more authentic.

If you are looking for steak. Angus steak house on Yakal street. Gaudi and Mamou in Serendra also have good steak.

Spanish food in the Philippines is also just as good if not better than the spanish food in Spain! Very authentic. Try Alba's, CAsa Armas, Gaudi, Tapella..many good spanish places

Those last two are kinda pricey.
Thanks,

I've been checking out the places at Ayala Mall, and I got to say Siam is real good for thai food, I won't say the best but it's up there.

I also went to Abaca for lunch and dinner after hearing rave reviews. Maybe I was just running bad but I went for dinner and ordered the Hummus and surf and turf. The Hummus came with regular white toast bread, but the cherry tomatoes in the hummus were awesome. I ordered my steak medium and I got it pretty well done, but I didn't complain. I tried the salmon too which was pretty good. I also went for lunch and got the Caesar salad and Salami pizza. The pizza was real good, but you have to eat it fast before the bread gets soggy. The salad was so fresh it came with a live caterpillar drenched in dressing. This time I complained and got it taken off the bill and a free brownie desert. I don't know if it was a coincidence but I got a stomach ache and diarrhea for the next couple days.

I didn't get a chance to check out Cowrie Cove but I did check out the lunch Buffet at Shangri-La, which was below avg.

If anyone like's Korean food the place to go for value (as in looks like a standard korean restaurant and not like abaca) is this place on airport rd in Mactan, it's about 2 buildings to the left of Days Inn if you're looking at it. The the Korean tourist agencies all take their customers there so you know everything is fresh.

Anyway how the **** do you guys deposit online? the only option pokerstars would give me is western union since I have a american bank account and cant use a e wallet, I guess I need to get a philippine bank account but do you guys know of any good e wallets that are easy to use with Philippines bank account?

As far as good places to eat in cebu I would def recommend AA barbeque, there is one location I feel is the best its right near a JCA's pizza, a chicken place named jo jo? and I think something called chika ahn. Most of the AA grills are awesome anyway the site is here
http://aabarbeque.cebubestrestaurant...-photo-gallery
It is the ****ing nutz, not expensive at all, the quality is great, you even see some actors and politicians eat there and you choose all your meat and fresh sea food and they will grill it/cook it right there on the spot the way you want it.

Also if you have not tried the local specialty, visaya chicken go check out conchings. Web site mentioning it here
http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel...land-BR-1.html
Best chicken I ever had
Hey if you're still in Cebu I can sell you PS chips for USD or PHP at whatever the rate is, probably like 46. Just PM me.

I checked out the AA right by my house, and it was pretty solid value wise. I'm going to be checking out Conchings soon. thanks for the advice
