He is moving there just because he hates living in the states, embraces the Filipino culture, and also he loves the women. He talks about "bar girls" all the time. What I am concern is that I will get home sick. I would miss socializing with fellow Americans, also Neil, suggested I will not enjoy the luxuries I am accustomed to. He says, I have to dress like a bum to not get mugged. I can't drive a newer car because it will get stolen, can't walk on side streets because I will get mugged. My friend suggested living outside of Manila because the city is way too expensive. Most of my family lives the outskirts of Manila. but I consider myself to be a urban person.

My question is, if I were to move to the Philippines, will I meet a large English (American or Others) speaking community? Is Manila really that expensive? Can I enjoy the luxuries that I am accustomed to?

this is why your friend likes the Philippines so much. really interesting article that anyone can relate to having been there before. similar things can be said about thailand. Its long, but really worth a read to anyone interested in Philippines at all. It's so true that as soon as you get back to the states, that all you think about is going back on the plane for another trip. sometimes, it can affect grinding.

Would anyone potentially be interested in getting a poker house starting around february next year? If so hit me up and I may start looking into it: note we would all have to pay in advance for the duration of the lease. We would share domestic help, and could possibly make some car-sharing arrangement.

Hello! Coming to Manila next week from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. I am staying 2 weeks and planning on playing tons of live poker in Manila.

Any suggestions for where to stay for approximately 2 weeks in Manila close to the Metro Card club or its equivalent? I would prefer to stay somewhere creative or modest, rather than the top dollar western / casino hotels - as long as I am safe.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Has anyone else who lives there (or has lived there for more than a few weeks) found this to be true?....that it's hard to find the discipline to get in the hours of grinding/training you used to, because so there's many other things you'd rather be doing?

how many poker players are in the Phils? I was going to stay in Thailand, but the thought of going to PI is creeping in.. What does everyone do when not grinding? I like to drink, workout, sleep, and play some xbox. The thought of being able to go to poker rooms to booze it up while playing poker is appealling. Boozing it up with cute Filipina girls is appealing too

bump... OK, I found a great place in Rockwell in Makati for sublet dec 11th-29th, so please PM me if you are a Rockwell resident, so we can meet up.

Now, I need to decide what to do Nov 30th-December 10th, as I am flying from Kaohsiung, Taiwan to Manila 11/30.

I am leaning towards taking a bus up to Angeles City - Anyone know of the best bus value from Manila (Airport or otherwise) to Angeles?

Also, anyone recommend a good value hotel in Angeles close to the main pkr casino and / or nightlife

Taxi from airport to Angeles cost about 2500-2700 pesos. Bus cost under 200 pesos, make sure you take one that drives on the NLEX(motorway), the buses have air condition and is more comfortable than the rubbish taxis.

I dont know about hotels, but choose one that is close to fields avenue, then you are close to casinos and nightlife. There is actually just 1 casino here, but at least 5 poker clubs, but I believe the games are mostly 25/50 pesos.

You can PM me if you need a drinking buddy on saturdays or sundays..

Are there still troubles with collusion? When I was there a year and a half ago I heard a lot of reports of collusion at the local games.

Still very common but easy to spot.

The monster 10percent rake is also still here

nah, I never play live anymore. Live games are too slow, and especially slow with one of the regular old players here in Angeles. It is also very hard to find a 100/200 or higher game last time I tried anyway.

But if I could trick the Koreans to play Omaha, then it would definitely be lucrative to play live again

the rake in 100/200 was 700 max about 1.5 year ago, but I believe it is 400 pesos max now.

Just booked my flight to Manila January 19-31

I'll be spending most of my time in Boracay though.

Anyone have any good tips/recommendations?

yeah, avoid the beach, too many rude pushy vendors there.. They will even bother you when you are in the water.

i'm thinking of moving to Quezon City, i don't know what district yet. I'll be staying with some family.

My personality:
I'm sociable, but a hermit. Meaning, i can talk politely and have fun with people at the moment. But i rather grind longs hours of online poker.
I'm not going to be into the nightlife scene.
Not looking for love or lust either.
I just plan on playing a lot of sports, jogging, and working out.
Don't care too much for fancy things.

Just need solid internet connection
and a solid bank.

Can someone share with me the quality of the city?
-Is it a nice place to live?
-Is it richer or poorer in comparison to the other major cities?

Internet Connection
-Do you know if it woudl be good there?
I'm trying to pursue Super Nova Elite on Pokerstars, so i'll be 8-tabeling limit hold 'em a lot.

Thanks in advance
