Quality over quantity. You only have so many minutes in a day.

You all are saying that nice condos start from 50k. Is it just me but from sulit.com.ph i can see nice one bedroom studio condos between 25-35k. Am i missing something? I am planning to move to PH in couple of months and gonna stay there 3-6months. And yes i am talking about Makati area. Is there a catch with those 25-35k condos? And to me it looks i can live easilly with 1500 usd per month in there. and that includes everything, bills, laundry etc. I dont drink much so i guess thats why can live so "cheaply".

Thnx SaltyWetFish for answering other questions previously. You seem like a nice guy who actually knows whats going on there

I am sure i could make it even with 1k per month but that means mostly home cooking. and mby eating outside 1-2times per week. I have a strict diet so i am cooking at home anyway

People have differing definitions of "nice".

Don't apply the comments from previous posts as they were referring to expat and baller lifestyle questions.

Condos in Makati around the 25-35k mark are perfectly fine, although you will likely be in an older building, perhaps 6-10 years old. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, and if you are willing to give up a little bit of the "newness and lifestyle" factors, some are actually in pretty good locations in the CBD.

If you don't require imported goods or anything that is related to world pricing (gas, computers, LV, Prada, etc) you will do fine on the 75k monthly budget.

What people generally don't realize in Manila is that anything above fast food is actually more expensive than in USA/Canada, and that imported goods can be extremely expensive (a small box of import cereal can cost 10 usd). Stick to an egg/rice/meat/fruit diet and you will absolutely fine. Drinking is cheap, unless you frequent girlie bars, and hookers are not cheap, unless you have acerbic taste. Figure on 60 cents for a beer from the supermarket, and lots of local bars sell beer for less than a dollar a bottle 24/7.

Any other questions just ask.

Fair enough if you don't want pay barfines. But you're seeing things myopically when you assume a bar girl who skims her employer is not getting any less.

I stayed 3 years in Manila. For long term deals I think it is hard to find a condo in Makati for less than 20K. Same in The Fort. But for 25K you can find a nice small 1br/Studio. And those are not in old buildings. Deals usually include association dues but not electricity/water. And electricty is expensive in PH... For short term deals it will be more expensive and it will depend how long you stay. 35k month for a studio/1br seems to be the avg price. Btw those who are looking for a short term condo in Makati / the fort can PM me.

And yes 75k per month is good enough to have a decent living in Manila. Of course you won't be balla but you can afford dinning out everyday and party every weekends. I agree with SaltyWetFish about the price of the food but fast food is jollibee, mc donald? I mean there is tons of chinese/japanese restaurants which are not expensive at all.

what you are missing its not "us all" saying that its salty saying it, read through his posting history and you will see every post is basically a "one upping, im better than all of you, i know more than all of you, and you should all bow down to my knowledge" agenda that he clearly has

look at the pic of the girl i just posted and his response "wall sockets, wet laundry in her room" really? ive seen that picture 20 times now and if you asked me "whats in that picture other than her?" i wouldnt have been able to list a gdamn thing, its actually funny and sad how hard he had to try there...... i would bet my roll that if you bring in 10 10k hookers right now not one would give the performance she did, it was already my best hook up ever before she woke up and i had the best sex of my life in round 4, then she talks me into doing a 5th..... any time we werent banging she forces me to massage her boobs, even after we just got done and im trying to not think about sex and take a break she would grab my hands and hold them on her tits

however im sure salty had a 4some with 3 hotter and hori

you can live on 1500 in manila if you want to, it wont be hard, and you will enjoy your life, you could do 1000 but it would be hard and you would have to cut costs in a lot of ways, or live in an area that might not be the safest

another lol salty comment is that if you only spend 25-35k on an apartment it will be 6-10 years old!!! the horror!!!

he says you need to spend $5000 a month to have a good time and $3000 to have a decent time...... granted i have lower expectations than most but im sure i could have a great time for me on $1500

he just seems to be trying very hard to impress a bunch of people he doesnt know about how rich, smart, and successful he is

I mean, you can earn more than that working in Mcdonalds in your home country, just wtf are you doing in Asia?
yes below average looking mcdonalds workers can log onto a dating site, message a 9 saying "omg you so cute na!! lets hanging out!!" and have her pussy start dripping with excitement the second she reads the message

mcdonalds workers can travel from city to city whenever they want

mcdonalds workers make like 10x+ what the average citizen in their country make

you are making some good points though

K2d,

I'm doing nothing of the sort. I'd never tell anybody, let alone on a public messaging board, how much I make, where I live, or what kind of car I drive. I don't live a baller life, whether by choice or not, that's up to you to decide, and I don't really care what you think.

You are taking all my comments out of context, ie, older building, but I said that it was absolutely fine. You're desperately trying to make your point which seems to be:

"my craptastic life is actually not so bad"

If you need to post on this forum to let us all know about it and to justify it to yourself, cool, have fun.

The problem with your description of Mcdonalds workers is, sadly, you don't actually make anywhere as much as a Mcdonald's worker in the USA. That's just asking for long term trouble.

And nutsflopper, you are such a troll. Let's play google warrior some more!

When I refer to "fast food" I pretty much mean anything in the quick service category. This would include stuff like Chow King, North Park (to some extent), Andok's etc. These are all cheap options, some of which are actually not too bad. I'd stay away from the Chow King/Jollibee options though, the quality of their food is below even fast food standards nowadays.

What I would refer to above it would be places like Chili's, Sumo Sam, Sentro, etc., where you will likely pay more than a comparable place in USA.

SaltyWetFish really has a weird view on life and everyone who doesnt share his view on how you should live and how you should spend your money is wrong.

I only spend about 30% of my monthly income living in Philippines, I have a hard time spending more and I eat whatever I want and drink whatever I want. But SWF is going to tell me im doing it wrong and should be spending 250k because otherwise im a kuripot expat.

he also has zero clue how much i make and assumes that because i spend $30 a day i make $30 a day, and thinks you can live the same life in the US on that money as you can in the philippines

i either just had my best or 2nd best month in asia, hint: it was better than $900

as gaston says i dont even think i could spend 5,000 a month if i tried, and if i did it wouldnt be ballin it would be wasting, im going to be just as happy in a 25k condo as a 50k condo

Am I supposed to take you seriously? You didn't even comprehend what I was saying at all. I was answering somebody's question on what it would take to live an middle class expat life in Manila. My answer in summary was:

120k is comfortable.
200-250k if you want to have a great time drinking, bars, partying and the like.
WAY MORE if you want to be baller.
75k is fine if you don't go out a lot or eat at expensive restos.

And you can spend even less, it depends on your own lifestyle, but I believe those are good guidelines. If you don't agree, then break down your own life and let's see.

Nowhere am I saying you are cheap or doing it wrong, so please, read carefully before you spew.

Hmm dosent some of you guys have a diary about how much u spend each day? Would like to see that, i am doing that here in Australia right now and if someone is thinking to move here or so i am more than happy to share it.

I am pretty sure i can make it with 1k usd in there and still living in 25kphp apartment. That means no partying tho( which i rearly do anyway). Would be nice to see someones daily expenses etc.
