Thanks!
100/200 Should not be a problem in my opinion. Even Higher stakes are spread quite often at Metro. Not that familiar with the games at hyatt but I do know the lowest game spread over there is 50/100

I'm surprised to hear this! I've heard from many people BKK(and LOS in general) is filled with hotties.
Maybe that's why everyone is getting the rockstar treatment in BKK

no rockstar treatment is for all ugly and good looking, king is cash, and ppl are poor, and all over Thailand even more in pattaya than in BKK.

as for the hottie thing i think Thailand and Malaysia have equal amount of hotties while malaysia have more non working girls "not so used and not so many millage in the tank" but thats just a guess

a studio is around 500 USD , and a 2 bedroom is at around 1000 USD, almost always 6 months contracts or more on the nice places.

A villa that you would consider nice and in a good area starts at around 1500 USD

This is in Manila ofcourse

It would be great if Makati is cheaper than Bangkok, but the resurch I have made on internet says that Manila is much more expensive than the rest of the Philippins and Makati is the most expensive place in Manila.
I've never lived in Bangkok. I don't know for sure if it's more expensive but from all that I've read about it and from my limited time visiting, that's the feeling I got. Tell me what things cost in Bangkok and I'll tell you what they cost in Makati.

Yes, it's true that Makati is one of the more expensive areas in the Philippines but prices are still relatively low.

ok back to the live games! last week i was in metro and i played the big game which is 100/200/500. its an auto straddle and i think the max buy-in is 100k but i think the rules can be bent when u have the mayor playing or some rich businessman... some1 told me a guy came in and deposited 1million in the cage jus to play for the day... the game smaller is 50/100 with a max buy-in of 25k so 250bb table...
im here in davao and theres a metro here but the biggest game running here is 50/100 with a 15k max buy-in but im waiting for this whale to come and play... his name is tata-sala and he plays like 1 or 2 times a month and jus dishes out money... he once lost 80k in a 10/20 game lol! he's also got a 10million bounty on his head from the president dead or alive lol

Thailand vs. Philippines

I've read about half the posts then skipped to the last couple of pages and found that thomas.t had a similar question. If yoyo posted about his move to Bangkok I didn't get to it yet.

I spent three weeks in Thailand earlier this year and liked the country, but it has some issues, and maybe someone who's been to both countries can do a comparison?

For the good points about Thailand:

Very low crime rate compared to the Philippines from what I've gathered. The touts were very irritating especially in Phuket, but I never felt in danger. Phili has guards with shotguns to protect people, but away from the safe areas sounds like asking for trouble if you don't know your way around.

Both countries have beautiful women, but the p4p in Thailand was less expensive than what I've been reading about Phili.

The rents were cheaper in my experience. For instance, decent guest houses I stayed at in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai were about $12 to $15 per night. Not the Hilton, but they were okay. They wouldn't be suitable for setting up a computer though.

Very tasty food.

Good points about the Philipinnes:

A big plus is that poker is legal, online and B&M. I've never heard of anyone getting busted for online play in Th, but a crackdown is always possible.

English is more widely spoken and I'd have to think that Tagalog would be a whole lot easier to learn than Thai.

Freer speech - too many people in Th have found themselves in jail facing 3 to 15 years for saying, writing, or doing something that could be even vaguely interpreted as critical toward the king or royal family.

A more stable government (I assume) without the riots every other week like in Thailand which is very divided socially and politically.

Some off-the-wall questions:

How is the public toilet system in the Philipines? (If you've been to Thailand you'll know why I'm asking.)

What city/area in the Philipinnes would be most similar to Chaing Rai in terms of size, not being too crowded, reasonably quiet, with most everything you'd need easily available? I didn't spend enough time in BKK to get a feel for the city, but CR was my favorite of the places I visited. CM might have been in first place except for the smog and constant noise from the tuk-tuks, etc.

So, tough question, but which country is better overall?

Are long term stays easier in one country over the other?

Are other Asian countries good for both living in, poker, and general culture? I haven't looked into Cambodia yet, but Laos and Vietnam are both off the list. Japan would be great except that it's ridiculous in terms of the cost of living.

And last but not least - I would have to support myself by playing poker and my game isn't up to par for that. My win rate is modest even though I've read most of the books, try to learn from my mistakes, play within my bankroll, etc. Any links or suggestions about getting my game to a livable win rate?

Go to Davao if you like ladyboys, ugly girls or muslims. If not stay away from there or just go for a weekend or something.

I would suggest Angeles City, the internet there is good and the pollution is not so bad. But no beach there.

I have a wife in Davao but have been stuck here for a year and a half (Canada) due to the recession. We have a house in Agdao and I love it there compared to Angeles City. Anybody that hangs around Davao long enough will realize how cool a place it really is, especially for a single guy.

We used to go to Samal island on the weekends and chill at a little "resort" called Ka Lich Lich. The kids had the time of their lives bcoz they were used to the public dirty beaches and hordes of filipinos. This place we pretty well had to ourselves.

and of course Mayor Duterte....god bless him for eliminating crime and making it the safest city in Asia. Thats right...all of Asia!!! I used to walk around hammered on Tanduay at all hours and NEVER EVER had a problem.

So to the Davao haters....**** you! We dont need your kind here.

Actually, there is not as much as in Luzon/Manila..but a lot of them speak well enough to get by.

Most clerks or business people speak fairly well. And any hotel worker speaks pretty much fluently.

I was surprised how many decent conversations I had with cabbies. When i asked where they learned most of em said watching television.

And thats another thing I love about Davao...cabs are reeeeeally cheap and plentiful....and they are not scumbags like they are in Manila.

Hey guys,

I want to leave Canada and live a simple life in the Philippines of just playing poker and enjoying life.

Two questions I had were regarding gettting Philippine citizenship, and getting money from online poker sites into my hands while I'm in the Phil.

As far as getting Canadian, and Philippine citizenship, could I get it even though I'm a Canadian born guy? My parents are both from the Philippines.

As far as banking, when I visited the Phil last year, I got charged something like $5 everytime I did a bank withdrawal, and the max I could take out was like $200. What is the best way to get money made playing poker online in my hands? Should I open a bank account in the Philippines? Or continue to use the banking from Canada?

Thanks for your help guys. I'd like to be living out there within the next 3 month. Hopefully I can meet up with some of you guys and we can party like rockstars!

ok ok... reagarding the cab drivers in davao... yes they are notorious for being the most honest cab drivers in the philippines... this is in part due to the mayor and how strict he is so you dont have to worry about getting ripped off like in manila, they jus flip the meter on and drive you where u wanna go.

regarding philippine citizenship... i jus got my philipine passport like last year and only 1 of my parents is filipino... all you have to do is go to the philippine embassy in your country (e.g. canada) and enquire about dual citizenship which enables you to have two passports, i suggest going with your parents or parent to the embassy jus so you have less problems.

regarding banking... i suggest probably opening a HSBC or CitiBank bank account because there is a branches here in philippines including here in Davao but im not sure what charges you will suffer... I brought a sh*t load of cash with me so i havnt needed to take much money from my card however when i do i jus use my card from the UK but im lucky in the fact that they just take a charge of like 1% which is the visa fee that my bank passes on to me... my bank is nationwide for all those UK players interested.

Im gonna be in manila next week so if any of you guys there wanna meet up for a drink or sutin and want me to talk about my experience here in davao or help you out with getting apartments or houses here in davao im cool with that.
