been sick or had cold for almost a week now, nothing to terrible but bit of a soar throat and gotta hack up a goodly amount of nasty every morning before i can start the day

not sure if its cuz i had to have the AC on all night and caught a cold or cuz i caught something

Well just arrived at Ph a few days ago. I can confirm that I had to show my onward ticket on leaving London and arriving in Manila (even though I have no plan on taking the onward ticket. Place is epic and way more developed than I orignally thought. Living in Infinity tower Fort Bonifacio which is close to all most things need. People are super polite and genuine around here, but I was told downtown Manila is a bit sketchy and was warned from going there? No idea how much truth to this?

Also any idea where to get Tagalog lessons from? Everyones English is excellent and I could do with the practice!

Don't live there so no idea but should be np to find a school .
You could try for private lessons.
My wife's sister is a local and teaches in Manilla.
Think she gets between 10-12.000 pesos a month.
There will be plenty of unemployed teachers there.

Thanks for the heads up. I hear that some schools do a double sitting ie from 7-12 and then 1- 6. Insane!

The 10\12 k is for working in a state run primary school.
Will at least give you a starting point.

Yikes. Consult your local physician before taking a flight to another country, so you could take all precautionary medicine and vaccines.

There are standard antibiotics (ones that target the throat problems) that will take care of this problem after just one day (ofcourse you must finish the remaining) and then you will surely think back why you endured the suffering the last time. I know this because this also happens to me when I go to some parts of PHL.

remember how we saved Vomits leg and life when he was at

death's door

before my first time there i was going to travel without any injections

lucky for me a friend of a friend got me a free deal and a 3 time course

2 before i went and i one afterwards

problem is my memory sucks and right now i can only remember

that hepatitis was one of the meds

The one thing i would hate to get there is Dengue fever.
Amazingly i have only ever seen 1 mozzie that carries it .
That was in Tagaytay and the rascal landed right next to my hand.
From what i know , these carriers are more active during the day and not so much at the usual dusk and dawn. There wings are different and have black stripes i believe.
I use Citronella when i am there against the mozzies , works well and prefer it to Deet.
