in western Europe they have been tipping for decades
No, they haven't. Service charge is added to your bill in most countries.

I understand that some westerners grew up not praticing the tipping concept

Or maybe they just pay the price asked, like 95% of the world does.

K2D, I do find it weird that poker players would tip a dealer numerous times during a session
Tipping poker dealers is illegal where I come from. Again, you guys just don't get it. You think the entire world is like America. It's not.

So you tip your doctor then?

i have a totally different outlook on this then you guys do, i dont tip to get better service, i tip to reward for service already given

one of the things i did in vegas was NOT TIP for awhile to see who the people were that were just being fake to get a tip, and who the ones were who were just genuinely nice either way, if a floor guy started giving me attitude or the friendliness went away the tips never came, if someone didnt change because they didnt get tipped then i rewarded them

bad thing is there were a few peeps who were really good that i didnt tip that i was planning on rewarding before i left, but i lost so much i could afford to do it, some day if im back in vegas with more money i wont forget them

the only ways i can think of that would ever have me not tipping a girl would be if we agree on something and then she doesnt or wants to leave way before we agreed, or if she says no to every lil thing i want to do except just basic stuff, even then id probably give like 100, as i said 10 pages ago the girl i got back to back nights was great the first night so i tipped 300 which is what i was told is the standard good tip for short time, the next night her attitude sucked so she only got 150

ill keep cambo stuff to that thread but im so scared here in phnom penh im already back to my hotel after a 30 minute roaming session

Ah...Pokerspiv, I don't know where you come from, but in the Philippines it IS standard practice to tip poker dealers, and is as equally accepted and expected there as it is in Vegas.

And that's not my opinion as an American, that's my experience having spent countless hours playing live in the Philippines, and seeing everyone (Filipinos and foreigners alike,) tip the dealers after dragging a pot.

My philosophy on tipping is that I tip in countries where tipping is expected, and I don't tip in countries where tipping is not expected.

Sorry for not being American, I guess.

customs is a breeze everywhere, they have not even looked at my bag let alone in it

o well surprisingly kinda liking a weedless life at the moment anyways, a week or two more without and when i find some in sihinouk even if its crap ill get ripped

K2D, I hope you have the courage of your convictions and remember to call all the British and Australian expats in Charlie Harper's douchebags when you see them leave without leaving a tip.

Yes definitely second this in general..I would say I deliberately tried to influence this sometimes. I'll use the taxi as an example because everyone has been there. "You know..being a foreigner in this area isn't always that fun..there are so many dishonest drivers and people always trying to trick people like me. It gets tiring. I really appreciate someone honest. You do a good job and because of this, you can have a little extra - you deserve it. Thank you". Always friendly and respectful with security guards and service workers. Accepting small mistakes (you have seen when foreigners lose their patience..it doesn't help). Joking around with construction workers that usually get ignored all day. When the high school kids say "Hi what's up" in the street play along "Yo wassup bro, how's it hangin!" and they all crack up - these are just small seemingly meaningless things but they get a very positive response in my experience...there are so many very small things like this I miss and possibly I'm rambling and this post doesn't make sense to others. I wish it were similar here but everyone is either on their work persona, ipod or on autopilot robot schedule mode. Praise the Phils

Yes this is true, however not always. Some casinos or card rooms prohibit tipping in the Philippines - this might have changed though. You do get away without tipping though and if you're grinding low stakes live, it's justifiable to not tip (rake) - at least not so often.

2 different situations imo. Tip all you want for regular day to day services. But dont give AC bargirls money the next day and try to justify it as a tip, it plain and simple isn't. Once you can understand this, we can all move on.

call it a tip, call it payment for services rendered, call it whatever the F you want, just give it to them

am i gonna be in the room with them?

if someone doesnt wanna tip the guy who poors him a beer im fine with that, its kind of a dick thing to not tip a waiter cuz its expected, but to be honest they dont do all that much, but a girl banging someone she doesnt actually want to bang deserves some sort of reward

ok im gonna do my best to not post again on this subject, ill let you all have the last word because it needs to stop, just know that if you cant give a girl $10 for doing what she does then imo u r a selfish prick and a bad person, yes, a bad person

This is incorrect K2D. In Asia nobody tips waiters, and it is not expected. I understand your points on tipping girls, but if you tip waiters you really will be in a minority of one as long as you are in Asia.

ok, i wasnt really meaning in asia per say just in general

good to know though, not sure ill be eating in many sit down restaurants but now i will save a couple bucks if i do

one thing i didnt like about vegas was going somewhere like the grand lux pickup at the venetian and those guys expect a tip, you walk across the hotel to them, all they do is take the food that someone brings to them and hand it to you, yet they give attitude (and i think they even tell the poker room staff that calls in the order) if you dont tip them

Welcome back to the thread fanapathy. When are you planning to go here in PHL?

I wonder what would be the new topic on this thread after k2d and this never ending tip.

Is banana ketchup unique to PHL?
