Will do, Thanks.
And the student, becomes the master

I should note for you Madison that Temujen was being sarcastic here, and that to date K2D has never lived or spent any time in either country.

However, he has just arrived in PI I think (or is about to,) and so sooner rather then later that will change.

It doesn't really matter since my buddy married and lived in the Philippines. He was a former esl teacher in Korea so contacted him. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers.

Madison,I was being sarcastic... the way K2D was talkin at the end it seem like he was going as planned. This is after a month or two of askin questions of the 2 places. Anyway he has posted for awhile so maybe he has gone and just dont want to tell people that he is on the way over. If you have taken the big leap K2D then goodluck to you out there. Everything is going to be overwhelmingbeing out on a 3RD world country for the first time so just take things slow. I may have been sarcastic or been negative about your plan at times but I do wish you success.

Hey,
Thanks for the information. K2D seems like he got cold feet. I don't blame him it's hard to move to another country. Cheers.

If you are not on an absolute shoestring budget like our friend K2, why not try both and see what one you like more?

just 2 months temujen?

its been since thanksgiving

to sum it up based solely on research and not actual experience

thailand is nicer, cleaner, safer, and cheaper, but the visa situation is a pain in the ass, unless u sign up for a language school

I've got a dog and 2 cats so moving around isn't as easy for me. Also, I haven't had a xmas at home in 5 years so that is weighing on my mind too. From what I've seen the Phillipines is a little bit easy to get set up, English level is so high, and cost is nearly the same but I my coach is located in Thailand.

Easier and cheaper to get set up in Thailand the English thing doest make that much of a difference overall and if your coach is there you should choose Thai over Phils all day long. As in not even thinking twice about it.

Pooter: It's def on my mind.
The main thing that is bugging me is my grandparents are getting older and not doing as well. It's been 5 long years away from family and friends so I think 6 month recharge back in the US might be good idea. Esp over holidays might be nice.

Thanks for the input it's been super helpful. Cheers.

Ah... Pooter, can you explain your thinking on this a bit more.

I mean, on a per month basis living in Thailand is a bit cheaper, visa wise, then living in Philippines is, but as for ease of doing visa runs Phils is much quicker and much easier. In Thailand you have to go to another country to do your visa runs, in the Phills you just have to go to a consulate within the city you are living in. In Thailand it takes 2 days to stay in another country to do the Visa run, in the Philippines it takes a few hours.

I really can't see how there is any legit argument that the visa run situation isn't much better in Philippines then it is in Thailand.

Personally I find Bangkok a bit more expensive than Manila.

imo the most important things in life are cheaper in bkk than manila (admittedly when i say manila im referring to makati).

In bkk the;

Accommodation (including hotels); better cheaper.

Food; better cheaper.

Girls (hookers); better cheaper.

Overall night life and fun; better cheaper.

Laundries; better cheaper.

Public transport; Better cleaner (not sure about price)

Paul and Poot:
It's kind of splitting hairs for me since both are less than S. Korea and I find it soooooo cheap on this island right now. Thanks again for the information. Cheers.

as far as when i was comparing manila to bangkok it was with my budget in mind, in the thailand forum jspill has shown some very liveable places for under $300, some under $200, in what he and others say are good areas of bangkok

not gonna find anyone on here who is gonna say that about manila, some will argue that you need more than $500 a month for an apt in makati

case and point

now go look at a post about 20 or so pages from jspill where he has a youtube video of on-nut or wherever and the place is $186 a month and could easily be lived in

it had no kitchen to be fair, but at that price.........

So no kitchen which means you have to eat out everyday which will bring your food cost... In the long run a apartment in the 400-500 would be just the same or even more cost effective. A place with no kitchen would only be allright if your there for 3 months or so.
