I have not tried this but is there any couchsurfing community active here? That might help people too cheap or broke to pay for accommodations.

Thanks for the great tips AoW... I can see how this place could work with the know how of a local to get past the rough spots but unfortunately I've decided to throw in the towel and this is my last night in Cebu. Heading to Manila for a couple days than off to Thailand... definitely post pics of Boracay when you get there, sounds a lot closer to what I was looking for when choosing Cebu in the first place... aka sounds awesome! Have a blast, and cheers.

anyone got a nice place in manila with spare room.. ideally with gym and pool? i'm looking to come up to manila for a bit, by myself for the next few weeks.. and hotels in manila suck. i'll be playing mostly online, maybe a bit live.

also, anyone going to black eyed peas?

ps.. if you've got a room, we can just meet up for drinks or at the poker room the night before so you can check out my ass (literally) first, make sure i'm your type. lol.

PM me with details of your place, where it is etc.. and how many peso. thx

seriously tho, i'm 100% not gay.. and would probably be pretty decent at getting good looking non-hooker girls for you if that's what u wanted (although sex isn't guaranteed).

dunno if i'm even keen to stay with a random dude off here to be honest.. but thought i'd post anyway and see what's good.

but, i'm not sure how getting a random dude off 2+2 to check out my ass and if he likes it offer me a room with the expectation that I bring over good looking girls who might not have sex with him sounds creepy.

Do you wax? Any implants, how's your waistline?

Can your trachea take some rough action?
How do you feel about coprophagia?

Bring a scalpel and we have a deal!

A few quick questions about short term renting in Manila

Say for a period of between 1-3months what sort of furnished accommodation could I get for say 20-25k a month + Utilities.

Am thinking possibly moving to a major Philippine city as although getting drunk by the beach most days is damn fun it's hardly the most healthy of lifestyles.

Oh for anyone needs a website for typhoon planning and general weather conditions this is by far and away the best site.

http://www.typhoon2000.ph/

this link gives images of all potential tropical weather systems in the area

http://www.typhoon2000.ph/t2kgraphsat.gif

Expect more typhoons to come it seems that June-Aug the typhoons skim up the east coast to Taiwan/Japan. Whereas in Sept/Oct they come across us here. Hopefully we don't get too many more.

I actually think this is a good question. Even though apartments is probably the most talked about subject in this thread, I would love to see a list covering all decent "condocities"/areas with estimated prices in MM.

This is for condos. I have next to no knowledge about renting apartments in houses, high end villages, etc.

Although short term is normally bumped up 10-25%.
Usually, listed prices for long term can be bargained down 10-15% monthly. This means you probably can get the listed 6m price for a 3m period. Well, if they're capable of understanding discounted tenant>no tenant. Which a lot aren't

You can get nice studio/1BR in Quezon City and Ortigas/Mandaluyong/Pasig (except the top buildings)

1BR in Taguig outside central Fort (not recommended)

You'll be able to find studio or small 1br in Malate (why it's even as high as this there completely baffles me)

You can get a studio in "semi-central" Makati, meaning outside of walking distance to Ayala/burgos/etc

Recommend use sulit and just put "studio fort bonifacio" ie, more specified for desired search, and you'll see the average price for buildings and desired standard. You might be able to find something in semi-central Fort for that price if you're lucky, but I doubt it.

I'm undecided about whether online hunting or direct approach of buildings is better. I would do online and text multiple owners and brokers but others have reported good results going from building to building talking to people in person.
One thing for sure, Unit Owner>>>>>>>>>>>>Broker/Agent

As for standards for this range, average is something like
1hp AC, fridge and basic cooking equipment, tiled kitchen/bathroom, a small couch, dining table, a medium or hi end TV (you'll still find some CRTs), queen bed, occasional bugs, sometimes minor pipe leaks, a solid shower w/heater, cableTV/internet subs varies a lot. Standards for furniture in general would be medium/high. Inspect windows for noise isolation. If you're not used to traffic, it will affect your sleep quality a lot if it's obvious. It also sucks when neighbors complain about noises and girls screaming in ecstasy in your bed so check the walls lol

Might not be the info you were looking for but hope it helps. Cheers, my lease ends tomorrow and I'm so attached to this place I dunno what to do.

Edit: Oh and almost all buildings would have a public pool. Gym is like 65/35 and only a few would have game rooms w/pool table, risk etc and something like tennis/basket court would be super rare.

why is Taguig not recommended? specifically rosewood point..

just because its a bit of a drive from central with traffic? or another reason?

also, could you recommend anything decent in malate, or this is an impossible task?

Makati barfines are much higher than I was expecting (2950 - 3950)

How much do you tip after? Girl told me 3500 was good... getting conned or what? What's the deal here?

Erm sort of, what you have to understand is the majority of people visiting Burgos are either Philippine newbies or expats working highly paid jobs. So the girls don't really have anything to lose by saying a highly inflated price.

There are cheaper places to barfine though with Rouges being the prime example 1. But again its all down to negotiating tip beforehand so you don't have some screaming girl in the room demanding more cash.

It's also pretty easy to meet up with the girls after there shift although no way gtd. I got a girl from Bottoms who wanted 4500 + 4500 tip asked her if I could get her number and meet her after work and what she would want. Got told 2000 so carried on boozing elsewhere and met up with her when she had finished.

Cool thanks. These clubs close a bit too late for me to want to do that (tho I was out drinking till 5 somehow anyway last night), but at least now I can hand over my bankroll with a smile and not feel like a total dupe. Cheers

The girls work in two shifts....

Think the first shift ends at 10pm. Although if you do go down the phone number route don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Depending on where your staying in Makati there are a other places to pick up freelancers. Cafe Havana in Greenbelt being one although I've never been too impressed by the quality there.

Every internet source I've seen says to avoid freelancers like the plague... you disagree? Any precautions you'd recommend?

I think there are different definitions of the word Freelancer when it comes to a lot of resources. A girl from Cafe Havana is something completely different to a street walker hanging down a Malate Back alley.

It all relies on common sense really. Have a chat with them and try and get a feel for them. If something sets off warning signs then proceed with caution. Agree everything beforehand if it looks like your going to take them back.

Oh lock your valuables in your safe.
