And to the **** fight guy I would be so down to go watch a **** fight! I would need a ride tho. I'm in Manila.
EDIT: **** = chicken. forgot that word would get censored lol |
Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
I was required to pay a year up front. PLDT f'ed up the amount I was supposed to pay and it took months to resolve. A year later I am still having lingering billing issues.
So in short, my recommendation is don't do it. Go back to PLDT and tell them you have a foreigner friend who has had problems with this. Bring copies of your bank statements and other proof of funds to show them that you'll have no problems making payments. And don't mention that you're only staying for a year. |
Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
Thanks Paul B. I've been following this thread off and on for 2 years now hoping one day I could be like you and live in the Phils. You are a legend among men!
Edit: Anyone have any info on this from Sun? I texted my landlord asking him about this and he says he thinks these condos will only allow Sun. That sounds pretty weird that they would only allow one internet provider but I dunno. After reading some of the responses here I really hope this is not the case. |
Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
I've heard of some buildings that do have exclusive deals with wired broadband but that doesn't make any sense. Sun Broadband is wireless.
Where are you living? From your earlier post it sounded like you were living in Tivoli Garden (like a country club, in Mandaluyong but near Burgos, poor choice imo). If so, PLDT and Globe are definitely available there. |

Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
If you love it then no prob, but personally I hate the location. It's very inconvenient with few transportation options, restaurants, groceries, or malls nearby. You could have rented one of my units at effectively the same price! No way you could have known though.
|
Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
Yes I agree with you there. There's not much close by... Yeah I wish I would of known you had units for rent! Maybe when this lease is up.. How come you are not advertising on here?

Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
They're technically still not ready yet. All the furniture and appliances are in place but I still need to put on the finishing touches. I don't want to spam so anyone who's interested just PM me for details.
|
Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
What kind of units do you have? Location etc.. I am sure just a general overview of your plans would be welcomed here.

Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
For Sun, they suggested I try a sim card first to see if I get a signal in my apartment. In general, they said anything above 11th floor would not work well with Sun (portable wireless internet).

Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
I have a one of the best 4G pocket Wifi things you can get. Can get up to 48mps (generally 17mps) on a black tattoo plan with Globe (Ph2300 per month) other wise its 7.2mps (generally 4mps). But I am going back to fixed landline as I have moved up story wise and the connection is not as hot.
Ok to grind on but probably best as a backup unless you have decent 4G signal. Let me know if anyone wants it without the SIM. Its mint, no box and also network unlocked. |

Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
for those that deal in euros do you get a fair price in pesos over here on trades?
am i going to be better off paying 2.5% withdrawing from a site that deals in euros to my dollar moneybookers account and then exchanging for pesos, or by withdrawing from the site to a bank heres euro account? |
Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?

Re: Anyone to ask about living in the Philippines?
Just got home from probably my worst night in the Philippines.
8pm, I just finished buying some stuff at Wilcon and asked the guards to get a taxi for me. They're like, "Sir, there are no taxis. The street is flooded." Sure enough I go outside and there are no vehicles passing by, at all. Keep in mind this is Pasong Tamo, one of the busiest streets in Manila — the water is knee deep in some areas and there are ****ing WAVES coming in. WTF? I take a minute to think about it, and I make the critical decision to start walking before it gets even worse. At first it's going well — I'm somehow managing to keep myself dry — but about five minutes in, I step into a huge ditch and get completely submerged head-to-toe. It must've been at least 8 feet deep because I didn't feel the bottom. I pull myself out and proceed to break off a long stick from a tree to use as a walking stick. I don't know why but I'm super calm as I'm doing all this. I get to Buendia and there are people around looking at me like I'm crazy because I'm soaked, looking calm as ****, poking the ground in front of me with a long ass stick. Meanwhile, there are FROGS hopping on the ground and all sorts of **** floating in the flood water — garbage, umbrellas, various clothes, a luggage bag, a pillow, an inflatable rubber ducky (wtf?). I walk some more and somehow manage to luckbox a taxi home (omg thank you thank you driver). It turns out there was no flooding near my building at all, WTF. So I walk into my high end luxury building with my clothes still drenched and dripping nasty garbage water and the staff just looks at me like they just saw a ghost. Then I get into the elevator with a couple of girls who I'm pretty sure are competitors in the upcoming Miss Philippines pageant, and all I can think about is taking a shower and putting my phone into a bowl of rice. The end. |
