The beggar, scammer and extortionist mentality is deeply embedded into South East Asia - like a bunch of overgrown children that feel entitled to other people's money either by sob stories or force. This doesn't just affect foreigners btw. but also locals.
Where are you from? I am from Europe, I wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment. Yes, the vast majority of Eastern Europeans or Europeans for that matter are perfectly fine peeps. As are the vast majority of North, Middle and South Americans, and, yes, Asians. There are a few bad apples that you find everywhere. And poverty and the availability of guns amplify problems with them. In a country like PH. Or the US. Or Mexico, or Brazil etc. Not a lot to do with culture

PH is a 3rd world shithole, so is Thailand. You take the good with the bad. Luckily in PH we have BGC which is a 0 crime, 0 beggars area where we live in a bubble.
But the fact is the only reason these countries are popular is because its easy to have sex. No one would move here if that didnt exist.
I wasn't trying to white knight anyone, I was just putting in this story to make the point that, unlike ILIA, I'm not letting rare unfortunate incidents consume me day and night, drag down my view of the country or the people / ethnicity as a whole and make me go paranoid / a people hater.
In the past I was also being robbed/scammed in England and in Italy. How does this fit into ILIAs narrative?
