I have stayed for two weeks in San Fernando, La Unión and one week in Baguio

La Unión:

cons: no tourism infrastructure at all, only hotel was absolutelly crappy hot and noisy, beach was unappealing, I'd say 40% speak no english or too little, harder to meet girls for casual sex (only banged 1 from tinder)

pros:
-super cheap,
-pretty cool culture: college basketball for free almost every night at the city square, street market with typical foods for amazingly cheap and many options (seafood, veggies, fried stuff, some kind of tacos, duck egg, meat, fried chicken).
-Felt like a real Philippines experience. Everyone was always excited to meet a foreigner
-super easy to get around with jeepney or trikes
-Filipinos from Manila actually visit La Unión a lot for vacation(to San Juan which is like 20 minutes by jeepney), so you can meet city girls at the hostels which are cheap and always populated

other points: almost no other foreigners (only saw 2 people in those 2 weeks if I remember well), not many hookers around. People stare and make jokes a lot (this could be good or bad... I personally like it)

Baguio: same but more rich and americanized, harder to reach and move around, cool weather

oh, almost forgot to add: Baguio is home of Team Lakay, one of the top 5 MMA gyms in all Asia. I have trained at a smaller branch in San Fernando. They were very receptive, made me feel like I could live there.

Oh and the time I spend at La Unión was 3 weeks, not 2. One at the beach in San Juan and two at the San Fernando City

i have just been to manila and angeles city. second visit.

second visit to angeles city was a let down. i really enjoyed it the first time, but not so much this time. too many koreans, too many scumbags, hard to find good looking women in the bars or high society. don't get me wrong, i had fun, but i can have fun in many places in asia. after the bus ride from manila and back, it felt like a lot of effort when i could have stayed in manila. took me nearly 4 hours to travel from manila to angeles city. i'll go again because i don't think i can fly all the way to manila and not go to angeles city. even if for one of two nights. i think i'll take a midnight bus next time.

benefits of angeles are obviously cheaper women (compared to manila), cheap beer.

but really, the bars aren't that much cheaper than burgos.

kojax you're paying 200 peso for a beer (120 baht which is nothing), other bars around 160 peso. angeles city you're paying maybe 100-125 at night, for bars that are far worse than bars in burgos. the girls in general look much better in burgos. if you want to get drunk for cheaper there are plenty of non-gogo places where you'll pay no more than 100 peso for a beer in manila. one place in malate i was paying 50 pesos for a beer.

first time i went to manila, i was disappointed with the quality in kojax, this time i thought the quality was pretty good. it's poor value for money 4k + 4k for girls, but if you can avoid the bar fine and organise something out of hours then it's not so bad. kojax quality is better than what you find in nana or soi cowboy. nana and cowboy are just tourist traps at this point, but tourist traps i still enjoy. bangkok just has a better, more fun vibe to the place even if you are in a tourist trap like soi cowboy.

overall, i prefer thailand to the philippines. i think you have more and better options for getting laid in the philippines compared to thailand, boozing is significantly cheaper in the philippines than thailand, but thailand wins for everything else. it's not even close.

right now, there's no real clear place to go to in south-east asia for girls, booze, lifestyle.

8 years ago thailand was the place to be, but everywhere has it's pluses and minuses right now. everywhere there's a trade off. there was no real trade off to thailand 8 years ago.

Nice write up lol69, you got anywhere in Asia that you have yet to go to, that caters to a traveller with your tastes?

I have enjoyed Angeles and Pattaya very much when I visited. The ratio of hot girls vs hot guys is so freaking skewed (lots of hot young girls, guys are mostly old or unnatractive) that it's very easy to get laid, ESPECIALLY outside of nightlife. Either Tinder or just talking to them on the streets, malls, street fair, stores.

That been said, I understand that some people don't enjoy doing this kind of approach

Another benefit is that those cities are SO FRIGGIN CHEAP!! Especially rent. It's so easy and affordable to find apartments... food is high quality for not so much

Downside(s): everyone is there for... you know what. So it's hard to be a healthy cute bird all the time. The degen will get to you.

Also, it's hard to get a real massage. The girls will start rubbing your ballz and say "YOU WANT EXTRA SIR??" For money, of course

Did kojax up their prices? Last I went was 2900 + 3000 for short time, and 150 a beer

The value of alcohol goes up as the dwindling supply of hot girls decreases.

it was 200 this last time and 200 last year when i was there. if you're used to thailand prices then it's not expensive. if you're used to subic bay prices then it's expensive.

you might be able to negotiate less but barfine was 4000.

plan b had same prices as kojax, but definitely a step below. girls were more fun but not as hot. kojax they had a little bit of an attitude where they knew they were hot (no different to bangkok gogos in a way).

if it's you're one opportunity for the year to bang a 20 year old with a hot body then it's a decent deal. you walk in there and point out a hot chick. the high price is good because it stops the koreans from scooping up the best talent like they do in angeles city. angeles city you waste an entire night looking for hot chicks.

definitely stay in makati if you want to bar fine. it's not like bangkok where girls don't really care where you stay (obviously closer is still better).

I was there and playing last weekend. Solaire had 1 100/200 from around 5pm on Friday and Saturday and 1 100/200 PLO starting later. No higher stakes. Game was kinda meh, there was one huge whale on Saturday dropping several buyins before heading to the PLO. Overall little action at solaire, 2-3 tables empty even at prime time Saturday. There was talk on the table about a private invitational game drawing action away.

Sunday I had enough of the same faces always at Solaire and went on a virgin trip to Metro Card Club, mainly just to add to my chip collection. Surprisingly they got a 50/100/200 going from like 6pm which was decent (only locals). On the way back i went via Resorts World to see if their money changer offered better rates than the one at Solaire (that upped their vig a lot, it was still better than RW though). They had 1 100/200 and a list of 3 at Sunday 11pm-ish, didnt play. I didnt check out Okada, in January they didnt have anything higher than 50/100

Just got checked into solaire. The sky tower is pretty legit. Hoping there is something running tonight.

What is the tipping culture here? Grab? Dealers? Waiters, whatever. Coming from Korea, I also was one of the few tipping so unsure it it's uncommon here too. The exchange rate is throwing me too. What's a decent tip? 50p? That's basically a dollar yeah? The 20 bill is basically loose change?

i just leave the coins or if a bill is 180 just round it to 200, most people dont tip here, its not expected

Tipping is not expected esp not for pots. But the waitress will be happy for any extra you throw her even if it's just a 25 chip

Ended up in a ok 100/200 game. Made 200ish usd. Talked to a pretty cool Brit while making his Frenchie friend leave in a huff. I hate talking politics at the table and wasn't expecting him to not understand my typical American viewpoint. Oh well. Be back Tuesday
