The best courses are private course but if you are staying in a good hotel I am sure they know how to get you on as a tourist. if you have friends here than I am sure they can take you to the nicer courses.

Sta Elena is the best course in my opinion. Try and play there. its an hour out of manila.

Thanks, I have some friends that have golfed there, but none that live there. I'm gonna get some info from them too.

How much is the rent for a studio apartment at Rockwell? Anyone in this thread lives in Greenbelt 4 or oakwoods? Imo getting a flat in Greenbelt 4 would be the absolute nuts.

I pay around 25k, and two other guys I know pay 20k and 30k. Yes a flat in the Greenbelt mall would be sick but I don't think they have studios and I bet they are very expensive.

Do you think you might come back from Bangkok and live here for a bit or is this just a one time 3 week trip?

At the moment the trip would be to get a bit of a feel for the place with a view to live in the future, Im having a week in Bangkok to give me a comparison of places. I haven't travelled around Asia much but after reading this thread and the Bangkok mega threads it seems like a cool place to live so wanted to check it for myself.

On a side note, how comfortable would you be walking around in the city with an expensive watch? I hear crime can be bad and thinking be better to leave my rolex at home.

Also any hotels you could recommend for when I arrive, its going to take 24hrs of travelling (long stop overs) to get to Manila so I'm going to be pretty tired when I get there. I have arranged to get picked up from the airport and wondering if its better to book a place now or wait till I arrive to get a better rate?

I'd say you can sport a rolex at a place like the rockwell mall or greenbelt makati area. Anywhere else you're asking for trouble. The good news is that why would you want to hang out anywhere else other than those two places?

Yeah crime doesn't feel bad tbh, and i've never felt unsafe (I feel safer here than in Chicago generally), but wearing an expensive watch around the poorer neighborhoods or even perhaps in taxis seems like asking for it.

Call the joya leasing office (you can find the number under contacts in http://www.e-rockwell.com/), and ask to speak to someone who handles their service apartments. It costs around the same (a bit less than) a nice hotel but if you're thinking of living here it gives you the best idea of what living here is like (much more so than staying at a real hotel). Also, book ahead and if your girlfriend speaks tagalog see if she can be the one to book so you can get a balikbayan rate.

Used to have a sideline, the money got slow though so I'm just playing poker now.

One br's are like 55k. Keep in mind that if you do a 3 month lease you pay 3+2 months deposit in advance and for a 6 month lease you do 6+2 in advance.

1BRs in Joya are P40-60K depending on the size and furnishings.

My first unit was P25,000 per month for a 33sqm studio (I paid 3 months up front for a 6-month lease). Now I pay P30,000 per month for a 37sqm studio with a much better view and location (I paid for my entire lease length up front, that was part of the negotiation).

Hello !

Iam living japan but I want to change. Philippine seem a nice place and I have questions for you. All areas you speak about (like Greenbelt, Joya, Rockweel) are makaty city right...

1/ Is all Makati city area safe?
I mean if I rent any condo in any place in Makati city... Is it okay and safe?

2/ I want to spend only 50.000 php per month for living in Makati city.
50.000 php for a studio in a condo + foods + some nights in clubs at week end. Do you think it is possible or I must forget Makati city ?

3/ Is makati city the nuts in philipinne for nightlife ?

Thanks

Oh ! and sorry for my english, iam sure it is bad english jaja

Yes, although Global City (Fort Bonifacio) is not.

No. The parts we mentioned are extremely safe and if you rent in a building w/a doorman there you will pretty much be completely safe. Most parts you would walk around in Makati city are safe besides these, even in somewhat poorer areas, but there are some very poor areas that are not safe, and even if the other areas besides these are relatively safe, they will be less so.

It would obviously be possible (locals do it with less), but it would not be very pleasant for a foreigner living in Tokyo to live this way. Forget about things like air conditioning all the time, eating in nice restaurants, having a nice apt., etc.

3/ Is makati city the nuts in philipinne for nightlife ?

Makati city has a wide selection of nightlife. But there are definitely other areas with good nightlife. Global City (Fort Bonfacio), though on the border of Makati, is technically outside and probably has the best nightlife. There are also other nice clubs in Manila, Quezon City, etc.
In response to your questions.
