Cliff notes for anyone who doesn't want to click: People in Bolivia (and apparently Iran) have trouble getting loans from banks, so they use their property as collateral by renting out to people who give them an interest-free loan for a year. Then at the end of the rental period, person renting gets back all of the money, effectively allowing them to live rent-free. Apparently it's all legal and above board, and you are protected from people absconding with your money.

I've been to Bolivia and although it's admittedly not at the top of my list of places to go live, I did find this kind of interesting. Just curious if anyone else has experience with this, or knows people who have done it, etc.
