His theory behind the recommended play is what I found so helpful. It was not simply Doyle Brunson's practical advice but a social scientific examination of the game and the common problems associated with it.
These books are the best of the reading materials you can find for tournament play, regardless of your experience level.
I have been pondering what you mean when you describe it as a 'social scientific examination?' I totally agree these books are wonderfully well written. Kill Everyone is a good book as well but nowhere near as readable. There is something remarkable about the clarity of the Harrington volumes.
I would be interested to know what kind of level people would use these books up to (say in terms of MTT tourney buy-ins.). When I play MTTs they tend to be like $5 or less buy-ins. Would people recommend something else for bigger buy-in events?
