HARRINGTON ON HOLDEM HARRINGTON ON HOLDEM

About to pick my 2p2 bonus books. If anyone has read both I and II of harrington's tournament books, could you tell me if the first one is pretty basic? I've been playing a while so after more advanced stuff, think I may be better getting tourney book II and maybe his first cash game book.

Or do both tourney books pretty much follow on from each other?

Appreciate any responses.

I would suggest that you read the table of contents.

That will give you enough info as to whether this book is suitable.

I would suggest that you read both of them. (I can remember which one has all the problems in it, but I found that one less useful).

His theory behind the recommended play is what I found so helpful. It was not simply Doyle Brunson's practical advice but a social scientific examination of the game and the common problems associated with it.

These books are the best of the reading materials you can find for tournament play, regardless of your experience level.

harrington books are insanely nice! I would suggest reading all of them, the first one is basic but is a good read and a good review, the second one he talks about differnet moves like sqeeze play, different types of bluffs, slow playing... If you can only get one book i say get the second one, im reading it right now and its great! 5 stars!

They're both good reads and part of the standard library that all players should own, or at least have read, imo.

Unless you have another book on the A list you want a lot more, and you can't do the bonus program again on one of the other sites, I would recommend you get volume 1 as well.

Harrington on holdem vol1 and vol2 are probably the best books out there

well if you read them and reread them and also get vol3 the quiz book as long as you understand the concepts fully you will immediately start beating the games for a decent amount. dont try and copy the style of play and rely on the ranges but apply the thought processes. GL.

I've got Harrington's Cash game book and actually like it more than Super Systems 2, which i picked up at the same time....

I think with Harrington's books he goes more into position and explains stuff alot easier, and expecially with diagrams that helps too... I thought SS'2 mainly delt with playing deepstack poker where you have the option to float 500$ or more on suited connectors when you have 4 or 5 guys calling a raise in front of you....

I totally recommend Harrington's books as a first read.....

I have been pondering what you mean when you describe it as a 'social scientific examination?' I totally agree these books are wonderfully well written. Kill Everyone is a good book as well but nowhere near as readable. There is something remarkable about the clarity of the Harrington volumes.

I would be interested to know what kind of level people would use these books up to (say in terms of MTT tourney buy-ins.). When I play MTTs they tend to be like $5 or less buy-ins. Would people recommend something else for bigger buy-in events?

,My total tournaments winnings after-harrington:

$20000 + ( 100% from online tournies )

My total tournaments winnings before-harrington:

-$150 or something. Negative profit.

But it's not all thanks to harrington. The books really helped with my early stage play but at the bubble and late stage of the tournament I am using my own aggro-style to go deep. ( which I didn't learn from harrington ).

I have no idea how his cash game books are. But if they are like his tourney books they are also definately worth buying.

Edit: I'm not saying his advice on late/bubble play is bad. I actually like the advices but for online tournies in the $20-50 range which I usually play I have to adjust the strategy quite a bit to the table.
