Book bonus, can i get the bonus through tournament play?

Hey peeps
I like the bonus that 2+2 and sponsors are giving. But its not really clear to me how to "unlock" the books.
1. What i see is that i need to play to earn points. And with enough points i can trade them for the bonus. Is this right?
2. What kinds of games can "unlock" the books? No limit/ limit/ cash/ tournament/ etc. ( i have only experience with no limit tournaments)
3. Is the bonus of any worth? I dont know what the frequenty player points are worth. Is it diffucult to get the bonus?
