FTP 50k - Bad shove? FTP 50k - Bad shove?

12-04-2008 , 03:01 AM
34 left in FTP 50K.....i have 33K chips at 1k/2K blinds.

folds to me on the button and i have A3ss. I should;

[ ]Open Shove (16.5BBs to much for shove with A3?)
[ ]Raise/call (might as well shove imo with this hand if i am calling)
[ ]Raise/Fold (pretty gross imo)
[ ]fold (way too nitty imo)

I elected to shove and sb had Ak and I bricked....the result is not that important obviously...i really try to avoid making big shoves with bad aces, but this seemed like the best option in this spot.

Thoughts? i ended up getting $200 and winner gets 10K, so hate to go out with A3 after suffering through this donkfest.

comments appreciated.

If blinds are ******edly loose(ie. shove 75o and stuff) then raise call, if not then jam

You're clearly +EV to shove vs most calling ranges. R/C might be good depending on their tendencies.

table was new and i knew nothing about the blinds. sb had 100K and was top 5 in chips. bb had 40K.

i dont think i get called by worse hands other than KQ and KJ maybe....you are in BB here with k10off....you are calling my shove for your tourney?

Without history I am calling 16.5BBs pretty tight, maybe 77+,AQo+,AJs+. You can mostly remove the best hands from the 16.5BB shove but you won't see total trash that often.

your calling range is what makes this close to me.....if i am called, i am almost always a 2 to 1 dog, so should i be risking 33K to win the 4k or so in the pot?

if i have less than 25K, this is an auto shove, but with 33k it feels awkward....i still have enough chips to shove over raises and get folds, which to me means i have decent stack for late in online tourneys.

more comments welcomed.....

ask ure self q: do i ever open ship KK here? if no then there might be a problem with A3s

you've got like 9 true BB's... agree with tufat if you're shoving premiums you can shove this, if you're not shoving than its an exploitable selective shipping thingy

I mean most of the time your just going to be shoving into randoms where you can always raise/call big hands and shove weaker stuff.

i don't see any logic in this at all? Why raise/call if blinds are ******edly loose? we don't want them shoving 75 when we have a3 and flip....jam and get more folds...

I would love to get a3s in against 75o, but I doubt anyone is reshipping that light here against a 16bb stack.

Fold > shove > raise/call.

i do shove the entire range of hands i play in this spot, including KK and AA.

$50 buy-in players may not all be brilliant tourney strategists, but i think most would realize that i am likely never raise/folding here with my stack size.

i still think this is pretty close between shovng and folding....25K or under, auto ship, 45k plus, i would raise fold vs the blinds that exist in this case. in between is close and awkward.

Assuming there are antes this is a super standard shove.
