Last 6 months I've lost a little over 30lbs.

Still have probably a solid 20lbs to lose. But well on my way.

Happy 9 year bump!

Long time, no see.

Lot has changed over the last 9 years. I'm 7 years into a pretty successful career, bought a house, got married, had a kid, another on the way, got old etc.

Everything has been going really well in life over that span, everything outside of my physical health that is.

Few months ago after wrangling the kid into bed and being short of breath from it, I took a look in the mirror and realized I'm in easily the worst shape of my life. I'm up to 230lbs, with a very sedentary lifestyle.

Took the plunge and started putting together a home gym. Which is just a power rack, barbell, and plates. Cause that's all a boy needs to become a man.

Been lifting since mid-June and realized I was getting close to some PRs so wanted to find this log and see how close I was. My PRs look like they were all around when I was 225 and 9 years younger, so I was pretty stoked to see I'm coming close to them. The old guy has still kind of got it.

Current lifts:

Squats: 5x325lbs
Bench 5x210lbs(Looks like this is actually a PR!)
Press 5x155lbs
Rows 5x190lbs
Deads 5x360lbs

Think I'd like this to be a bit of an overall wellness log. No plans to diet or anything at the moment, want to keep pushing these starting strength gains till they stall out, but certainly want to clean up my diet, less drinking, more protein etc.

Anyway, not sure how many old faces are still around but it feels good to be back!

Today's workout was:

Squats:
5x325lbs

Bench:
5x210lbs

Deads:
5x360lbs

Deadlifts are getting really tough but still doable. Squats feel really good. And bench also feels good.

I slowed down to +5lbs increments much earlier this time around, and I think it's really helped with maintaining steady progression.

Excited to keep grinding.

Poor form on the last set, and it's just getting super heavy. Will try again on Wednesday to get this up.

Rows:
5x195lbs

9 year bump pretty epic. Why are you doing only one working set on each lift though?

Sorry, just being lazy and not writing out the amount of sets. I am doing 3x5 for each. Outside of deadlifts of which I'm only doing 1 set of 5.

1x3x165lbs
1x2x165lbs

Rows:
3x5x205lbs

Sept 6th 2023:

Squats:
3x5x355lbs

Bench:
3x5x225lbs

Deadlifts:
1x5x375

Getting some mild bicep pain when squatting now. I think I'm likely not getting my back and shoulders set quite enough so starting with some daily shoulder dislocations to try to get my shoulder flexibility up. Not effecting my other lifts yet, but I could definitely feel it when benching after squats. Might try benching/press first if it starts to get more noticeable but hopefully the stretching helps and it goes away.

Still going. Second kid arrived, so took a month off in September/October for that.

Deloaded everything to 80% and worked back up.

Bench:
3x5x225lbs

Rows:
3x5x170lbs

Dec 13th:

Squats:
3x5x290lbs (doing a light day for Squats mid-week now to try to prolong the gains on the NLP)

Press:
3x5x155lbs

Deads:
3x5x375lbs

Squat is definitely getting heavy but still manageable. Probably will need to keep pushing my eating/protein intake up to keep up the gains but I'm hoping to reach 405lbs before the end of NLP.

Pushed Deadlifts to 10lbs jumps for a few workouts as they were almost even with my Squat. Still feel fine with the 10lbs jumps.

Squats:
3x5x375lbs

Press:
3x5x170lbs

Dead:
3x5x395lbs

Still pushing on Starting Strength. Had a few small resets due to the many colds my toddler is bringing home but hoping to push Squats and Deads to 405+ before switching things up.

Workouts are extremely taxing at this point so I don't plan to go too much longer on SS.

Just do a regular hypertrophy program like push/pull/legs or upper/lower. No reason to do exclusively fives on barbell lifts, that's not good for fitness overall and it's not even good for powerlifting either.
