I decided to switch to the 5x5 i posted up thread. i work out during my lunch break and starting strength has been taking like 1.5 hours and i only get an hour for lunch. I figured i'd try this for a while since i should be able to finish each day in like 40 minutes.

Then my hands go slippery and i could pick the bar up. i waited like 10 minutes to dry them off and i still kept slipping when i tried to pick it up. my grip was pretty dead too

I think I would shoot myself before trying deads for 5x5. Especially at ~94% of your 5rm. If you have to do volume deads I am pretty sure 70-85% would be recommended. I think what you are doing would accumulate fatigue way to fast but I dunno maybe others can chime in as volume deads is something I can't really find a consensus about.

I kind of wanted to do this, if I ever finish starting strength. But when I was looking through the site, I was wondering if the 5X5 dead lift was correct. Maybe it was supposed to be 1X5. And just got lost in translation.

From Mike W:

“I have been doing Starting strength for about 6 months. I was going to try this program. My last deadlift for starting strength was 1×5×315. what do you think would be a good weight to start for 5×5. to me, 5×5 accross seems like a lot of volume for a deadlift.”

Mike, start with 275. It is a lot of volume -until you adapt to it.

My forearms and hands got really tired in the last two sets. Had to take like a 4 or five second break on my last rep. hopefully i get used to the volume

Havent updated in a while. I quit doing the pavel 5x5 and started doing madcow 5x5. I didnt really like that so i switched to the advanced ss version where you do front squats on wednesday. My weight is up to 205.

incredible squat progress from 10/2008 until now. over 100 pounds from 190 to 300. your bench, on the other hand, hasn't increased much at all. what's up with that?

Could not catch my breath after the set. I felt like i was going to pass out for like 5 minutes. walked around and still could not catch my breath so i left. Had a little panic attack on the way home cause i couldnt breathe. Not really sure what was going on

Had a hockey game and could not catch my breath again after my first shift. I have been drinking a ton lately so maybe that has something do with it

I took a vacation so i had like 6 days off from working out but my back/hip still hurt. its only on the left side like exactly where my belt line is. I am going to try out Rippetoes injury thing for a while.

I cant tell if this is helping or not. On my vacation i golfed a lot and i could barely bend over to tee the ball. I'm feeling better now but im not sure if its cause im not golfing and barley working out.
