Re: unfrgvn's story and log

Had some time off work, so got a little more riding in:
8/18 10 miles
8/20 11 miles
8/21 10 miles
8/22 37 miles

Total for the week is 68, which should be a PB. Rode some of the 10 mile rides at high intesentity to see if I can gain speed. It's weird, I can do the 37 mile ride at almost the same pace as a 10 mile ride at a much lower heart rate. Pegging my heart 20 bpm higher doesn't gain me much more speed. I guess that is aerobic threshold?[

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

8/24 6 miles - short intervals
8/29 10 miles

Wanted to put in more miles then this, but life keeps getting in the way. Weight is still hovering at 200. I seem to have hit a plateau. I'm not eating all that bad but will have to see if I can cut about 200 calories a day. I wanted to get to 190 sooner than this.

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

Pretty good week. Weight is 198.

Tue 8/31 10 miles
Sat 9/4 36 miles
Sun 9/5 9 miles as fast as I could.

My time for the 9 mile route was 32:30, for an avg speed of 16.7 MPH. My "race" is next Sunday, and if I can post the same time or better I won't be too embarassed. The really fast riders will post times under 24 minutes, or 22.5 MPH.

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

Weight 198. Lots of rain from the remnants of tropical storm Hermine Tuesday - Thursday, so little riding.

Fri 9/10 10 mile intervals
Sun 9/12 9 mile race for Corporate challenge.
My time was 30:40 which is something like 17.6 MPH. Finished 209 out of 304 but I'm not too unhappy. I rode it as hard as I could. The fastest time was by someone in the 50-59 age bracket, 19:41, which is just crazy. That is 27.4 MPH.

Plan is to ride either the 41 mile or the 58 mile route next Saturday on a ride. I would really prefer something like a 48 mile route. The 41 is a little short and the 58 is a little long. Will play it according to how good I feel on the 18th.

Weight 198.

9/18 41 miles on a ride. It was pretty hot, but could have done 10 more miles. Not sure about 17 though.

Weight 196. Had a crappy personal life week and did nothing in the way of working out or riding. Will do better this week, I hope.

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

Posting this late, but did get a little riding in last week.
Weight 196

10/1 10 miles
10/2 10 miles.

My bad left knee is hurting. Seems to be a seasonal thing, as soon as it gets cool out it swells.

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

Weight 198, not eating as good as I should and no exercise.

Knee is still sore, but a little better. Hopefully will be able to resume riding this week. Also going to work on upper body. Right now I can do 0 pull ups. I'm going to see if I can get to 1 by doing negatives.

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

weight 198

Left knee is back to about 80%, so I managed a ride on Friday without ill effect. Did some pushups and worked on the negative on a chin up bar, but I haven't been disciplined enough for it to make a real difference. Will try to do better.

10/22 15 miles

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

weight 200

I can't believe that its been three weeks since my last update. I've gained 4 pounds since mid september. That is the wrong direction as I would still like to get 180. I can't lie and say its muscle weight, because I haven't been doing enough to gain muscle. I think I'm living the board adage about early gains come easy and the later gains are smaller and harder. I know I haven't been doing enough. I have various reasons but I need to improve my diet and my motivation as we go through the end of the year and into 2011. My goals are to get to 180 pounds and ride a century(100 mile) bike ride by August of 2011.

Miles ridden
10/29 18 miles
11/14 27 miles

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

Don't sweat the setback with the weight! What specifically are you doing eating wise? I am starting my own log soon and have the same goal as you regarding the HHH next year. What ride did you do in September? Was it the Cotton Patch ride in Greenville? The best way to get to 100 mi is to plan some rides out next year. Bikeforums.net has a Texas section and a link to the different local rides in DFW with reviews of previous years events.

Re: unfrgvn's story and log

Thanks Gibby, I have that one bookmarked. I did ride the CPC in Greenville in September. I also rode the Collin Classic in June(27 miles) and the Tour De Paris in July(37 miles). I live in Rowlett and it is really tough finding a place to ride around here right now. All the roads are under construction, so you have all these trucks or massive traffic jams. Along with the short days and cool mornings, it's tough to get a ride in. I usually end up hauling my bike to White Rock lake and riding around it but thats a weekend only activity. I think Santa might bring me some rollers so I can ride indoors during the week.

As far as food, I need to do better. I know what I need to do, I'm just not doing it.

Can't believe it was a month between rides. I need to get serious about this or it will be another year without meeting my goals.

GPS issues on the 14th. Getting a little faster, need more weeks with 3-4 rides a week. Also really need to focus on diet more to shed 10-20 pounds.
