That's why I specified long limbed, it actually had nothing to do with height. Lamar Gant is a great example of a very short and very gifted DLer; it's just about the ratio of limb length to torso. Somebody can be tall with relatively short limbs like Donny Shankle.
But to your point, in pling you can kind of "out work" or focus on weaknesses in a way that you just can't as a long limbed lifter with the jerk. If you have long arms, jerking correctly without pressout may be physiologically nearly impossible for you and mobility work will only go so far. Look at elite lifters like Jon North... still soft elbowed in the jerk and there's just nothing you can do it about it. In pling, even if you're not built for a lift at least you can a.) do it correctly and b.) overcome limb length ratio limitations. In oly, that might simply never happen unless you start at a very young age.
And despite all this, you'll still find long limbed lifters overrepresented in the DL records; though to a lesser extent than you'll find short limbed oly lifters overrepresented in jerk records.
