My opinion of these quest bars hasn't changed too much - as in they're pretty good and tasty, but nothing special, except with goat macros. However, something about them is oddly addicting. I think I really like the insanely chewy texture. I prefer unmicrowaved.

So I ordered a variety pack. TR on flavors in about a week.

I can't keep them in the house or ill eat them till they are gone. Then comes the poops.

Berry Bliss has been my staple as I can almost always eat it. Choc chip cookie dough by far one of the best (esp with some coffee). Other 2 very solid as well (have no idea why they use difference packaging for the boxes)

Use bodybuilding.com where you can see reviews of each flavor. I agree with them being oddly addicting even though they are not the best tasting bars out there. But THOSE MACROS! And I feel damn good after eating one

Hmmm, the macros on those do look pretty good . . . I've ping ponged back and forth between bars and shakes over the last few years, but I'm enjoying just throwing three scoops of ON in a shaker with some water and downing it in the afternoon, then just having a cookie or a piece of fruit or something if I want some carbs.

Female: I started 8 weeks ago and I'm only 15 down when I should be 24. I cheat on it every day, I feel so bad ....

aiott: A 3 pound per week weight loss is an insane goal for you <crunches some numbers shows her that for someone her size that's less than 1000kcal a day>

Female: Well, I'm in a diet program so I'm just going to do what they tell me.

I blame myself honestly. I just couldn't take it anymore. I was at the bar with her once and she brought a tupperware dish of cantaloupe to eat so she could follow her diet all while she's drinking beers and shots and I kept my mouth shut then which was obv the correct play.

And she's already posted another diet related status update today, smh.

Those quest bars do look like something I'd like to get my hands on. LOL at nearly $3.75 a bar in Canada though. I'll have to make a trip to the US to stock up at a more reasonable $2.25 or so a bar.

The fiber is what sold me on the Quest bars to be honest. I have a terrible time getting enough fiber in my diet and these are basically all protein and fiber.

Do you guys get different prices if you use a site like bodybuilding.com? Is shipping absurdly high?

Nah Canadians are just so friendly and gullible they'll just pay more for stuff.

Lolled IRL. True for me too. I just need to indulge for a few weeks though. Might not be a long term part of my diet. They're expensive.

I got a free cookie dough bar with my order of choco pb. I liked it a lot, but I think I was expecting too much out of it because of all the hype. Will be very curious to try out your staples. & +1 on feeling good after eating one of them.

These bars would not be FDA regulated, correct?

Any chance they just straight up lie about the macros?
09-09-2013 , 05:04 PM
NM, just ordered 36 assorted + 1 CRAVINGS for about $2.85pp from bodybuilding.com. Hopefully I don't get crushed by duties, I don't know if it's shipping from the US or not, but it seems they've updated the site for Canada since I last ordered from there (4-5 years ago).

If I don't get dinged for duties, ordering from BB.com will be better yea. I had initially looked at supplementscanada.com, which is where I used to order stuff. I know they ship from Canada, so no duties. Not sure where the BB.com stuff will be originating from and if they have Canadian warehouses now.

This would be clever, but probably pretty illegal I'd assume (fraud?).
09-09-2013 , 05:21 PM
I should have mentioned you can always find a 10% off coupon for bb.com

It's funny how little sense it makes that we have such a terrible regulatory system in the US for supplements

I don't think "clever" is really the right word...it's just a calculated risk. If protein bars fall under the same category as the rest of the "nutritional supplements" then they don't need to meet FDA approval; ie burden of proof of wrongdoing is on the FDA. And in the grand scheme of things monitoring the ingredients of fringe companies that only sell a few million units a year isn't a big concern.

I mean POM lied about health benefits for years, blatantly, in every national TV ad they put out. And nobody is going to go to jail for that, even though they perpetuated a lie that was a key driver in their growth over the last 10 years.

Dunno, if I had a supplement company I would lie my ****ing ass off and keep a good lawyer on retainer. Just seems like good business.

ETA: Not saying there's any real reason to think Quest is lying. Just that believing that advertising/marketing fraud for supplements is reasonably monitored is probably not right.
09-09-2013 , 05:27 PM
Like many things, the supplement industry has gotten insanely better because of the internet and sharing of reviews etc.

If it weren't for the internet people would still be putting out ****ty products with ridiculous claims

I known an attorney who practices exclusively in this field. I'm certain they are regulated by the FDA, whether as a dietary supplement or a food is probably the question (my guess is dietary supplement).

I'm fairly certain they need some form of substantiation for their nutrition panel (presumably lab testing?) and can get in big trouble with FDA and/or the FTC for fibbing these numbers. I don't know, however, if this information needs to be provided to the FDA before they actually start selling their product or once the FDA knocks on the company's door asking for substantiation. I believe penalties/fines can be pretty severe if caught lying. How closely they're monitored in practice is a different question though.

This is a solid PUA move for sure. At least for the first 10 years until you finally self-actualize and tears are just something you drink but are unable to secrete any longer.

Man, so good. But even better b/c I'm not sure this is a troll. That's exactly what I would tell someone who said "too heavy to DL". I'd just be like "Dude, do I look like I even DL?" And they'd have to insta-accept OR bow down to my jelldick weights. Win-win-win.

Btw, I have no thoughts on quest bars...macros look good but they seem expensive. I eat Oh Yeah bars sometimes. B/c they taste pretty damn good and have better macros than most bars that taste good.

I did try sludge over the weekend with fat free vanilla choboani yogurt, 1 scoop of double rich chocolate ON, 15g grape nuts, and some blueberries.

It was....fine. Not really sure what the fuss is about. Was probably slightly worse than having it without the protein powder. But I guess it helps me spread out protein consumption throughout the day a bit.

Has anyone ever read Arnie's autobiography book? Is it worth reading? I was considering randomly buying it but it's weirdly cheap and the reviews are not great.

I value the convenience of being able to get a ton of protein in the afternoon relatively quickly; I'm not sure I could eat 14 more ounces of chicken 3 and a half hours after I eat lunch, so this works for me. I'm sure if it was sludge, that'd somehow be magically ok?
09-09-2013 , 07:50 PM
I assume saw is also having shakes? Although maybe not. I am with you Monte - shakes are easy and pack tons of protein, no reason not to.
09-09-2013 , 07:57 PM
Monty, I'm just playin'. Obv you enjoy them, that's all that matters.
